I'm planning on painting a logo on the back of my new bass guitar. I just have some questions before i run off and fuck it up.

I dont plan on repainting the body, just a logo on the back of the body.

I'm wondering if i needta sand the finish off? since im only painting a logo i imagine it would fuck it up because id hafta repaint the bits in the openings of the decal.

Could i just paint over the finish? would i hafta refinish the logo? what sort of paint should i use for the logo? what kind of finish(if needed)?

maybe I can help. but i don't want to tell you to do the wrong thing...
so give more info pls

What kind of finish is on the guiter now? Acrylic? Polyurethane? or what?
Is it a decal you want to put on or is it a hand painted logo?
Can you send me a photo of the guiter showing all three sides?
Can I see the logo?

Acrylic paint will go over most finishes on wood. Just about the only thing I couldn't use acrylic on was china. (China paint worked fab though!) You might also consider, after finishing the logo with acrylic, going over it with some poly coating so that it will withstand wear and tear better.
