I'm seeing more and more guys 18 to early 20s freely posting naked shots of themselves online showing their faces, and at the same time, I'm seeing more and more guys in the same age range seemingly terrified to be seen naked at the gym. What's up with this? I'd love to hear from some of the guys who are boldly showing it all online. What drives you to want to show your face? (And don't get me wrong, I love it!). Is it a general shift within this younger generation away from the conventional paradigm of privacy? I read a scifi novel a while back about a "worm cam" that would allow you to open a pin-sized wormhole anywhere on the planet that was connected to your computer, essentially creating an undetectable spy cam that could be placed in any desired location. As years went by and the younger generation who grew up with this technology became adults, the concept of privacy ceased to exist completely. Is that what we're seeing here? Is it different in person, though, causing the young guys at the gym to cover up instead of letting it hang loose?
Looking forward to some insightful perspective!

Very insightful post! Cudos Buzz! Someone it thinking with the head... on his shoulders!!

I honestly hope to learn a millennial's perspectives on the topic!!!

Party naked hell yes!! Take cell phone photos of it ...hell know!!

I believe the paradox is fueled by the lure of the "modern digital society"...Which speaks of total transparency...while boosting your individuality. Which is totally a trap!

How can you be unique??? keep some "mystery" about your individual essence??? Your je ne sais quoi??? If "your essence" can ( and is being) captured and exploited by the likes of Spacebook (LOL)?

While I am happy that young men are embracing the masculine energy in the gym and with other friends! I fear 30 years down the road some jarring regrets will be evident. Anyone who is past age 30 will understand not wanting your (child-mother-pastor-boss) to visualize every single youthful indiscretion as a public image...forever.... yikes!

Maybe the ones at the gym aren't well endowed and are embarrassed by that?

The times I've had a peek at the guys trying to stay covered up, I have noticed that they've not been the most endowed, and I've also noticed that those happy to let it all show tend to be at least average and often above. But, while this is a factor, I think there is more to it than just that.

Well I think perhaps quite simply... The guys at the gym who cover up just aren't show offs. Not everyone likes showing off. I'm not someone who likes walking around naked in front of others and I don't think it has anything to do with my age or gender. Not everyone is 100% confident with their body.

My guess is that it's an audience issue... they're uncomfortable "showing off" in a neutral location or where people would be deliberately looking away--especially because when guys "show off," they feel like it's implied they're looking back and they might not want to admit it to the old guys at the gym--but in a forum like this, it changes the mood.

Good point @rtg. I was much more shy at the swimming showers before I realized I was above average soft. It shouldnt make any difference but I just lacked confidence esp when I was younger

Are the guys posting this stuff online (esp those with their faces) not usually hung?

Sorry, I am not a twink but an old psychologist. There are probably many factors having influence on this apparently paradoxical behaviour - some of these are mentioned already.

I suspect that being naked, alone, with a camera is not regarded as psychologically "naked in public". The fact that thousands of people may see the image of your naked body or even watch you wanking/jo is not personally involving, as he doesn't know if and when it is being viewed and he is not there to be part of it.

In a public changing room/ locker there are real people, real eyes, in the here and now experience. The twink is there in the experience. He is potentially "naked in public". It is more psychologically revealing, more naked and vulnerable than a naked selfie, which may or may not be viewed, and without his actual presence.

It has a parallel in the fact that for many people the glimpse of a cock in a movie or TV programme may have the erotic thrill that watching a porn video may not have, until you actually see the sexual action. One is an intentional display for erotic titillation - therefore expected and "public", and the other is something that feels like the invasion of the actor's or character's privacy.

Probably because the internet, even with a face shown still offers some degree of separation between reality and the real world. So a nude photo online even if viewed by thousands, has a very low probability of being viewed / discovered by a person you know or interact with. In a Gym, you understand that the random probability of being in close proximity of a major stalker perv is probability 20%, possibly / probably higher depending on your locality,

I hope this explains why some young guys do not place their junk on display, for the cheap thrill of the professional locker room lurkers / stalkers, many who frequently post in threads like this one

I've wondered about that, too. Guys above about 30 or so, in the US, at least, seem to have much less of a issue being nude in locker rooms than the younger ones.
Considering that younger usually is easier on the eyes than older, you'd think it'd be the other way around.

I have often thought it risky for young men to post naked pics with face shown on the Internet, though I'm glad they do! However, anything posted will be available for viewing for all eternity. As time goes on, some of these men will have wives and children, and perhaps they will occupy positions of importance or responsibility in the future. That pic or video of Daddy flaunting his big boner or Councilman Smith jerking off could become an embarrassment.

Whenever there's a "scandal" about a public figure's dick pics going viral there's usually a comment or two to the effect that it won't be long before the public response will be, "But everyone's dick is on line!"
I wonder if the younger generations will have the same attitude mine have/had toward skinny-dipping : Even people who aren't into it don't think it's particularly strange if other people are.

You can tell about what era mandatory showering after gym class ended. I'm in my 50's, small cock, and I walk about wearing only my shower shoes and carrying my towel. Guys from about 35-up are much the same. Under 30 it is like a different world. I have showered in so many locker rooms and college dorms I have seen and been seen by thousands probably.

I am not at all shy around other men. Why would I be really.

Oh, come now! No politician would even THINK of exposing himself or saying something sexist (or sexy) on line nowadays! I can't think of a single politician who would make that kind of poor decision. Nope. Not one...

I would agree that this is part of the answer to the paradox of young men not wanting to relax and be nude in an all male locker room and shower. Also the decline of positive male influence in the home. I think it comes down to training and exposure in a positive setting early in life.

If a naked man is comfortable with other naked men, he must be GAY! (Oh, dear!) Or at least that's what some people think, if only subconsciously. If he's not gay, it will make him gay. We all know how contagious gayness is. People might not admit to thinking this way, but not everyone is really ready to accept reality. Some young men have been brought up this way.

Thanks for all the posts and comments! While there is definitely a cultural shift in the younger generation and why a lot of them are not comfortable being naked in a locker room setting, I'm actually more curious to know why, despite that cultural phenomenon, there is a growing number of guys who ARE comfortable posting naked fully body/face photos on-line. I haven't seen any of these guys from LPSG chime in here. I guess not reading/responding to the forums is another characteristic of this crowd. ;-)
