didn't often hear threats, they carried out the punishment.
A couple : "Wait until you father gets home" or "maybe we should have left you out in the field and see how you fend for yourself"
"hurry up or be left behind"
"your under my roof, I can put you out anytime"
This was more when we were little and grade schoolers. We heard stories about having to cut their own switch and such.
My mom had us on a harness when we were real little and in big crowds. Yes, I lived. I also did this with my son as a major road was re-routed 12 ft from our front window! If ya disagree, so be it. I would much rather have a safe child than someone who loses theirs or the child ends up injured. With balance problems I couldn't run to keep up and if he wasn't paying attention to a drive way I could always pull him back. Gave me a few more seconds.
I remember getting hit with the metal end of the fly swatter a lot, spanked on occasion, mostly put in the corner then being grounded when I was older.
My son, depending on the offense and if it has been a previous problem, first we start with a warning (unless safety related or he has done it before), nose to the wall, and occasionally he is spanked but only with a hand on his butt.
Something to be said about the way I was raised. I respected my parents, my elders, and most everyone else unless they lost my trust. I respected people who wore uniforms and my community and country.
As a teenager, I was rarely punished. My parents always knew where I was. I was respectful enough to call. I never had a cerfew. It was "be home at a respectable hour or make sure we know where you are."
To this day, I respect others until they give me a reason not to. I do not judge people by the first meeting as you never know what other factors/pressures they have been under one day. I value my family, my friendships, my community, and my country.
