Longstud9inches, I don't know whether you've ever read Arthur Hailey's novel Hotel (1965)? I have, and I'm pretty sure Conrad Hilton has a guest appearance there. Of course not under his real name, but one of the characters is the owner of an international hotel chain, by the name of Curtis O'Keefe, a Texan, if I remember correctly. I think this highlights the fact that on both sides of the Atlantic non-custodial sentences ought to be used where possible as punishments for minor offences. Whilst I fully support custodial sentences for those who've committed the very worst types of crimes I think the urge to send low level offenders to prison, usually for relatively short periods, simply to 'teach them a lesson' is one the courts should resist.
