Of course. To the stupid advertisers (which is where we all know that money flows from) no one wants to watch women's sports unless they're visibly jiggling and sexually appealing. Mini skirt is the only option, they can't not have the "panty shots".. what will people focus on? The actual technique and talent of the athletes competing? Nah..: unamused:

It’s an archaic rule based on privilege. When tennis hit its vogue only rich people played and white clothing were difficult to clean. Only rich people wore white because they had others to clean their clothing. Plus it was difficult to see sweat stains on white - god forbid rich people sweat.

Wimbledon doesn’t even allow coloured soles on shoes. They have to be white. A man was thrown out due to the colour of the soles of his shoes. Every competition has a pretty specific guideline around colour usage. Archaic.

Although, there is an argument that white is cooler in temperature. So it’s a more practical colour.

If you watch the movie “Battle of the Sexes”, you see that the women used colour as a symbol of their freedom from the patriarchy of male dominated tennis. I don’t know how true it is, but it sure didn’t affect the way they played.

Colour sure hasn’t affected Ms Williams. Time to get rid of these stupid old rules.

Isn't France also the asshole who banned the Burkini and Burqua and Face covering?
That's them.

French Parliament and French Open is a lemons-to-green-apples comparison. Both fruits, both sour, but different orchards.

Sadly both ruling bodies have

I am vastly ignorant of sports. To my brain, it makes sense that the French Open is held in France.

I still insist that the objection to a covered body in sports is the same mentality that objects to a covered body for religious purposes.

The article says "Hmm, sort of sounds like the French Tennis Federation is body-shaming Serena"

Um, what???? one of the fittest athletes on the planet and the author uses "body shaming"? Unless they're shaming her for being jacked!

Side note- this is not unprecedented. Same thing happened at Wimbledon in the 80s with a white bodysuit and she was told to dress more traditionally the next day.

Jezebel is garbage "journalism". They're to be taken about as seriously as The Onion.

Jezebel has recently come into its own as a respected source of online news. Particularly on topics related to women and feminism.

This particular article may have an element of tongue and cheek, for the most part, their facts are on point. More so than many main stream outlets.

If they all wore boring white outfits, people might actually focus on the athletics and not the fashion. So maybe there's some logic behind it.

(I really only look at it for the ladies' outfits and mens' physiques. Just being honest.)
