I wouldn't be totally surprised to find out if this was true. Maybe he was just extremely telegenic/photogenic. I guess that could also be said for many celebrities from the past and today. Quite ordinary or average looking in person. Transformed into gorgeous Gods, after hair and makeup artists work their magic.Paul Newman always commanded the screen, but I've heard he's one of those on whom the camera gifted everything. Seeing him in the flesh was often disappointing; he seemed surprisingly ordinary.

It's all so unpredictable. Some people are as electrifyingly good looking in person as they are on the screen. Others don't seem promising at all before they get before the lens.
