Article courtesy of Aaron Kemmer In the late 1990s, a company called Longitude struck gold with a huge ideaa huge penis idea. The company realized that men care about their penis and their sexual health . . . So why not sell a pill to help them build the penis they want? Longitude claimed, among many other things, their pill added inches to a mans penis size. Of course, there wasnt a pill that could do such a thing, but that didnt stop them from rowing in tens of millions of dollars before finally being shut down. Along the way, the company added immeasurable taint to the already-gloomy reputation of the term penis enlargement. Despite the negative vibe brought about by companies like Longitude (they surely arent the first or the last), enlarging the penis is indeed possible. It cant happen with a pill, but effective penis enlargement can be broken down into two categories: surgery and exercise. Both have proven successful, but surgery still has a long way to go before it's considered safe, effective, and worth the money. Exercise, on the other hand, is a different story. PENILE EXERCISING In a study conducted by Dr. Brian Richards, thirty men enrolled in a three-month penis exercise program. The results of the study were sent to the British Journal of Sexual Medicine and showed that twenty-eight men demonstrated permanent and verifiable enlargement. The average length increase in Richards study was 1.125 inches and the average girth increase was 1 inch. In a survey I did of 957 men who used penis exercises, the results were fairly similar. The men who exercised for three or more months gained an average of 1 inch in length and .5 inches in girth (an average 42 percent volumetric increase). The majority of the men also reported harder and stronger erections. Heres a quick overview of the common exercises men use to improve their penis. JELQING The jelq is the backbone of every other penis enlargement exercise floating around on the Internet. No one is sure where the jelq came from, or how the jelq came to be such a sought-after exercise. Some speculate it is an ancient Middle Eastern exercise. According to author Gary Griffin, Sudanese Arab fathers taught their adolescent sons how to jelq in an effort to prepare them for manhood. Jelqing, also known as milking for its milk-like motion, is a simple exercise that applies light pressure to the smooth muscle and other tissues in the penis. Overtime, this pressure causes the penis grow bigger and harder, similar to how applying pressure to the biceps causes them to get bigger and harder. The jelq gives the penis a workout by taking the hand, making an OK-grip symbol, and gently milking the penis. The exercise is useful for obtaining both length and girth, although different versions of the exercise has helped men obtain more of one than the other. STRETCHING Stretching the penis is most likely the oldest form of penile exercising and is useful for obtaining length, although it has been known to help men obtain girth too. There are hundreds of different ways to stretch the penis, all of which provide a unique type of stress that, when provided consistently, causes growth overtime. Gently stretching the penis gives it a workout in several ways. First, it stretches the ligaments at the base, making the visible part of the penis longer. This method is similar to how surgery lengthens the penis. Second, similar to the jelq, it applies pressure to the penis smooth muscle and other tissues, causing the penis to not only grow bigger but fitter too. One of those tissues in particular, the tunica, governs the size of the penis the way a bicycle tire governs the inner tube inside. As easy as stretching may sound, no one should try a jelqing and stretching regimen without proper instructions. One of the reasons I originally wrote Exercising the Penis was to not only dispel the confusion surrounding penile exercising, but also to lay out how to effectively do the exercises. Many men try to exercise their penis without the proper guidelines, and end up overtraining and dont gain anything but grief. Penile exercising, just like all exercising, requires the right type of training to see desired results. KEGELS The Kegel is the most well-known penis exercise, and actually involves exercising the pelvic floor muscles at the base of the penis (commonly referred to as the PC muscle or pubococcygeus muscle). It was originally discovered by Dr. Arnold Kegel in the 1940's to help women tighten their vaginas after giving birth. The Kegel was later found to be just as beneficial for men wanting to improve their sex lives. Yet, for one reason or another, most men skip out on the Kegel the way they skip out on their Brussel sprouts. Although it's mainly useful for keeping the penis healthy and fit, several men have reported a slight increase in size by using the exercise. According to authors of The Prostate Health Program, Daniel Nixon, M.D., and Max Gomez, Ph.D., kegels also help men keep their prostate healthy, improve their ability to last longer in the bedroom, and achieve a greater ejaculation. The exercises described above are described in detail and with videos here Aaron Kemmer has given lectures to sexual educations classes at the University of South Florida and has written extensively about male sexual health and penile exercising. Experts report that his new book, Exercising the Penis: How to Make Your Most Prized Organ Bigger, Harder & Healthier¸ is the first of its kind and a must have for any man who cares about his penis.
