Yes, it is in the news today. Drakes Beach in central California, about 50 miles north of San Francisco, has been invaded by "penis fish."
Apparently these lie dormant, buried in the sand, at some California beaches, but were driven out by foul weather. They are not really fish, but rather girthy marine worms. The beach is just covered with them:
