i am a dr.......a sexual thought does not go through my mind during any pelvic exam i have ever done.
1.i have a mental checklist that i go though during exam...to make sure i am doing everything in correct order and well
2. trying not to say wrong thing...people feel very vulnerable while legs are up in sturups.....and can get offended if i look at her vagina and say "looks good"....so instead i tend to say stuff like "looks healthy".
3.going over possible diagnosis
4 and desperately dont want to miss something on palpitation
5 dont want to hurt...pinch skin with sepeculum, spread labia to much...etc
and all this rammed into 20 minute visit....dont really have time or room in brain for sexual thought
This makes me feel marginally better (spelling & username aside :tongue
I was sexually assaulted by a physician once when I was in my 20s. It wasn't even during a normal exam, it was during an exam where one wouldn't normally have to disrobe. I didn't know this, so I did and he proceeded to give me an internal sans gloves or equipment. Disgusting pig.
Since that time, I've been unable to trust any male doctor. If I am forced to see a male doctor, I take a friend in with me or request a female nurse.
I would like to think that the vast majority of male physicians do not have sexual thoughts in their heads when performing their duties. To consider it otherwise would be unbearable. Not everything involving the human body has to be sexualized.
