A question to the foreign members here or Americans who live in other countries- Europe, Africa, South America, Asia, Australia....

Are the men in your country obsessed with the size of their cocks? Or is this unique to the USA?

I was going through some personal ads on the internet from Europe, Italy specifically, and it struck me that few of the men bragged about the size of their dick, contrary to ALL male personal ad venues in the US. Maybe it is a "big" thing but men in other countries are a bit more chaste in describing themselves. Don't know. Would there be a LPSG say in China? I think every single American man is aware on how he stacks up in the size department to other men and bigger is always better as the Texans say.

Would Canada considered as foreign countries? It's in the same degress of "obsession" as US. I have been to China a couple of times, they don't care about penis size that much.

I don't think that Canada is as penis-centric as the US. I think that alot of it has to do with nudity and exposure among young males. The french influence has made us a fairly sexually-liberal country. Aside from that is the eastern European influence (nudism, steam rooms, saunas, nude beaches, etc.) When I was a kid I saw many grown men naked. When I was 11, I saw a soft porno on TVO (like a small PBS). I had to start showering with boys in gym class at the age of 12. I knew exactly what a cock looked like and I couldn't care less about mine or theirs. When I was 13 I had to learn about the anatomy and function of the penis in health class.

I think that Canadians have become more desensitized, and less obsessed about the cock than our yankee friends. If young males were exposed to them more often and learned about them at an earlier age in health class.

Before our tribal days, everyone walked around naked. I doubt they had any hangups about private parts. I believe that it's the same with breasts and vaginas -- the more you hide something, the more fascinating it becomes.

I have a friend that I met in a foreign exchanged program (from Bamburg, Germany), and he commented about how American guys are obsessed about being the biggest so much, and so anti-nudity that he couldn't believe it. He was hot, and if we were at a public bathroom he would drop his pants fully to piss, and that made others feel uncomfortable, but he didn't realize it. When we went to my gym he dressed in the "lobbyish" area of the locker room, not realizing that people cared. Like rec3000 pretty much said, America is so anti-nudity (on TV, movies, in public) to where others countries don't care so much. You can call some one a bitch on television, but you can't see a naked man (but you can see a naked woman!)

I had lived in Europe and in Canada. Americans are more superficial in general than the Europeans and Canadians especially in big cities on the east and west coasts. Take a look at European porns for example. European porn actors tend to have more natural looking bodies than many big and "plastic" American counterparts. Bigger is better seems to matter more with the Americans. Anyway, when it comes to penis size, Europeans are not that picky however, if a big one comes along, it does get their attention quicker than an average size one.

I would venture a guess that it fits in with my "more repressed, more obsessed" theory. The more puritanical and repressive a society, the more sexually-obsessed people that society will produce. Almost all societies have an "original sin" and/or "evils of curiosity" myth - Pandora, Eve & the serpent.

If you hand a someone a box, say "don't look inside", and then leave, what's the first thing they do when you are out of sight? Have a peep.

The more young boys are told that their "naughty bits" are naughty, the more they think about it, the more curious they become. Curious about their own, about others, about how they compare.

Speaking as a bi guy from the UK I find that the hetero community here are less obsessed with size (except maybe for the odd comment) than the gay community but i reckon that goes for most countries.

I live in Australia, i feel that it is a very american thing to be overly obsessed with penis size. However, in Australia's ever increasingly Americanized society it is becoming more of an issue for men i think. By the way, what is with other countries becoming Americanized. I personally think that America has made many mistakes in its past and still has alot to learn (for instace the recent shooting), this seems to be the future of Australia. Other countries should follow the Aussie way (and to you americans its pronounced Auzzie), but hey i'm probably bias. :)

I quite agree with your "more repressed, more obsessed" theory and would like to hear more about it. Americans but most especially the rest of the world forget that the people that landed near Plymouth Rock were religious pilgrims. It is that 17th century puritanical thinking that is at the core of our society today. I'm not a history major, but I know of no other country that started the way we did.

Well, that's pretty much all there is to it. Humans are curious by nature. Who doesn't want to be "in on a secret?" If sex is made to be one of those "things we don't talk about," something secret, something dirty, it increases the curiosity about it. If kids are given factual information during the formative years of their psychosexual development, the less tantalizing is the forbidden fruit. The less factual information they are given at crucial stages, the more they have to "fill in the blanks" with their own imagination, and the imagination of friends. Filling in the blanks, (in my own, unproved theory) may or may not lead to unhealthy fixations.

You don't have to look much further than some of the threads in this forum to see where no information or misinformation leads to problems later on... threads such as "will my big dick stretch her pussy permanently?" or "do men with big dicks cum more than men with little dicks?"

Males (and to some degree, females) will always be curious about penis size - their own, and how it compares to others. How that curiosity is handled is most likely going to determine whether it remains just curiosity or becomes obsession.

So true. Parents will let their kids watch TV shows that show people getting shot or beaten, but God forbid they should see a penis.

On the rare occassions that nudity is shown, you hear tons of warnings about how "This program is not suitable for minors." Why don't they say that when they show bombs going off on CNN?

I am amazed at the number of posters who come on and think that it is wrong for a son to ever see Dad's penis, ever, ever. Or see anyone else's. How can a boy handle puberty when he knows absolutely nothing about it?

Children should be taught the non sexual aspects of the genitalia when they are young: what they look like and how they pee. Later when they are able to UNDERSTAND the sexual aspects of it is the time to be more discreet. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a three year old taking a bath with his mother or his father.

So when boys hit puberty and hear all the jokes about 12 inch dicks, they feel inferior because without correct information, they think their dick is too small, even if it is 8 inches erect. They think they are four inches too short.

It is wrong to without vital information about the functions of the human body from children.

The subject comes up in Italy too, but less frequently then in the U.S., i feel.

One reason might be that Italians experience less "male community" than Americans: we do have locker rooms, but usually we have no boarding schools, for example.

I heard here that Americans discuss size more often than Italians, and comparing is not so common in my country.

I can't tell if we are less "anti nudity" than Americans, in locker rooms it is not uncommon to see naked men, but in TV, even late night shows rarely feature male nudity.

Anyway I experienced that being hung gets you the others' envy/admiration here too, it's male competition, i guess. And Rocco Siffredi made fame and money thanks to his big dick.

I don't buy the Pilgrim theory on why we are so frigid. The Vikings were as barbaric and unruly as they come yet their decendants are the Danes, Denmark one of the most civilized places on earth.

Yes, but that is not the same thing, is it? The Viking's may have been unruly, but they were never sexually repressed. Thir decendants are civilized, but they are sexually liberated still. (Many American's still consider than unruly because of that.) The Puritans were "ruly" to the extreme, and repressed out of their minds, literally. Seems your counter-example is really a citation of the polar opposite and supports DC's point.

I think the percieved American sexual repression is a product of 1950's moral standards. I say percieved because it is ironic that we may feel America is sexually repressed on the public face but in reality we are a very sexually open country in our private lives. I don't feel sexually repressed. Do any American men on this board feel repressed as if the Puritanical bent of this country restricts their sexual proclivities?

In terms of promoting marital fidelity, kids with 2 parents, discouraging teenage pregnancy, and reducing the spread of venerial diseases a conservative stand and limits on sexual freedom makes sense on a societal level. But I agree that sexual knowledge needs to be out in the open and not hidden. Denying and ignoring this basic human need and integral part of all of us is ridiculous. It's such a powerful force that whoever is in power needs to control it. That's been the case in every society like the Catholic Church.

With the "more repressed, more obsessed" theory it would follow that the most sexually repressed countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran, and communities like the Mormons in Salt Lake City would be the most size obsessed but I don't think that's the case knowing some close ex-Mormon and Persian men friends.
