New high-tech scanners being tested out in 10 US airports are so efficient that operators can 'see' the breast and penis size of passengers.
Designed to replace the physical pat-downs currently in operation passengers step in to a glass booth which closes around them.
Millimetre waves which go through cloth and identify other materials are then used to make a three-dimensional image of their body beneath their clothes.

The graphic images - clearly showing sexual organs - are then looked at by security officers - in another room.​

The Transportation Security Administration say the pictures are not printed stored or transmitted and that 30 of the machines could be installed across the US by the end of 2008.

People should just get over it. I'm more worried about it being just how obvious my gut will be... not that there's much hiding it.

What do you mean "get over it?" Peering at our goodies under our clothing is about the clearest example of an invasion of privacy that I can think of. What's next, requiring passengers to strip nude? Freedom is seldom lost; it's given away, eroded little by little. Who would trade an ounce of freedom for a pound of 'security' is no patriot.

Well, you can't really use your phone when you go through security because you have to put that through the X-ray with the rest of your electronics and carry-ons. And throughout my travels, I haven't seen a security guard on duty using a cell phone. I wouldn't be too worried about it. This is the equivalent of the pat down, except now you don't have to feel as if you're being manhandled awkwardly by some homophobic security cop.

People's dick sizes, especially on a forum like this, is no real secret. There's images all over the place and people staring at your dick photos, real time, whether you want them to or not. It's not as if the scanner is going to look at your Johnson, attach your name onto it, and announce to the whole world that this is so-and-so, and he has 6 inches. I say, let 'em look. It'll be hard for them to justify their job titles as "dick scanners" if they did try to do something funny anyhow (no pun intended, of course).

miss the point? these security monitors are secluded, yet viewed by several people at the same time, so snapping a quick pic is not likely, and probably grounds for immediate dismissal. At best, the monitoring staff will only be able to have some j/o material, or the occasional story to tell their friends. ("This guy came thru today, and it must have been Jonah Falcon, he was so hung! drooool!" or "Tom Cruize came thru today and I had to break out the microscope! LOLZ!")

I was actually talking about the security people taking pix. It's my understanding that you will be "screened" in a public area and security personnel view the images on a computer monitor in another area, secluded from public view.

Where there is a will there WILL be a way found! *shudder* Just look at all the upskirting videos there are out there.

It will be a few years after this is implemented when there is a scandal cuz some security screen took a cellphone picture of a celebrities "scan" showing all the equipment:biggrin1: How much WOULD a magazine or pornsite pay someone for a picture like that?

If what I've read is true, the biometric data from the Backscatter X-Ray will be stored for future security use on database. Presumably that means it might help security agencies track or apprehend someone suspected of being a security threat, by identifying them using their "body scan thumbprint". It also suggests the data is going to be around for a long time.

If that's the case, there may be opportunities for employees with clearance access to snoop in an inappropriate way at any time in the future. That could result in images being released publicly, particularly if they are a celebrity or an anonymous representation of an exceptional physique.

I'd imagine the up-skirt cam crowd would grow its equivalent fan-base looking for body scans. (And the fakes would be as prevalent as ever, as we often see here.)

Didn't miss the point at all. x704 addressed the issue of someone taking a picture of your private parts via cell phone so I tried to give an opinion about it. Someone else said that it was an invasion of one's privacy. I say, let 'em look. At the very worst, it'll prove to the boys and girls in the suits that all men are not created equally.

Besides... if the only people who are viewing this stuff are in a secluded room and something did manage to leak out, imagine the embarrassment of the people doing the looking? I would think most people wouldn't want to be exposed in the public as the person who prevents terrorism by looking at people's dicks and boobs. I mean, how can you make something like this look glamorous on any resumé (unless you're in porn)? What type of job skills are needed for this?

Ummmm... excuse me, sir. Our records indicate that you have something 10 inches and hard in your pants. Can you take that out for our screener to examine?

Some people are just less inhibited than others. I've never taken an X-Rated pic, or even one without a shirt... nevermind a dick pic. But that's just me. As much as we may worry about people who are looking at our pictures on the interweb, we also have to realize that identity theft doesn't happen as frequently to the average person as it's portrayed in the media. I've been doing web forums, online chat, and have posted pics on the internet for more than a decade and I haven't had to worry about someone impersonating me in a rather nasty way. Perhaps I'm just too boring looking, but I digress... as I knock on wood and put my lucky rabbit's foot in my left pocket. :biggrin1:
