Being raised in a nudist family and being naked pretty much all my life - I have no hangups about being naked in front of either males or females. Its as natural to me as......................well what ever you care to say. Get it off - get it out - and enjoy the freedom.......and most times you look just the same as the other guy!!!
I'll admit that I'm one of those people who will go ina stall to get dressed, but it's not an insecurity issue, it's a privacy issue. I got no problem taking my clothes off in front of people for the most part but there's nothing wrong with wanting to be alone while you dress.
I've see a few people take these showers entirely too far. Me and some friends went to a Jewish rec center (not jeweish, I'm black) and after working out we decided to swim which we did. Afterwards we all took showers, but they were separated into stalls. I come out to dry my shorts and after a second or two I see this naked little girl standing next to me maybe 3 or 4 and her dad (I assume) was behind her. I just pull my shorts out the little machine, got dressed and left. It's not that this little girl was naked it's the fact that this was the adult males locker room (not the family room which they had) and this man doesn't know who's in there.
I just went to the bathroom during my break from class. For some reason they didn't reinstall the center barriers when they point those new flush free urinals in. So I step up to the urinal next to this other guy since it was the only one open. The guy was practically hovering over it. I did not. Not trying to get piss on my clothes. While using it I notice the guy keep glancing over. I then heard him saying to a female friend just outside the bathroom about how small he felt b/c of "the black guy" that was pissing next to him. Kinda sad really...
Many people do stupid things like that in hope of some reassurance. I've had men take the urinal directly next to me while there are perfectly fine urinals all the way down the wall. I got no problem with you being there, but keep your piss in your area dammit.
Clothes are a cultural convention. Anyone who is doubtful of their own propriety, or those creeping folk who "need" to see total strangers naked is ssad.
Maybe they're trying to be polite. Seeing other people's naked bodies can make some people uncomfortable, so maybe it's not a confidence issue, but an issue of manners.
Not sure what the BIG deal is, different strokes for different folks.
Grew up in a large family, Catholic school, football, basketball, track, almost ten years in the marines, exotic dancer and nude model in Honolulu. Avid exhibitionist but don't think being a nudist or not says anything really. Just don't see the big deal!
