The other day, I was sitting on the pan when a guy in the stall next to me answered a call on his phone. They were talking business. Come on! There is a limit. I don't want to listen to other people's conversations at the best of times, and definitely not when I'm taking a dump. I made sure I made as much noise as possible in the hope of embarrassing him enough that he wouldn't do it again. I certainly never take my phone with me to the bathroom and wouldn't thank anyone for calling me or answering my call while they're in one. I don't think any call is important enough to interrupt a call of nature. I'd say that about the only less acceptable places or times to make or take a call were in church, in a cinema or during sex. Anyone else got an opinion on this?

:lmao: I would never answer my cell in a public loo :lmao:

I find it annoying when somebody walks past and it looks like they're asking you a question, but it turns out they have those damned earphone things in.

OMG! I'm the same!!!

Hate hearing people on the loo and phone at the same time!
Always told my team that I NEVER wanted to talk to them if they were on it and please don't call me or answer my call if that's where they are! :lmao:

But yes, the number of times I'd be in a public loo and someone would be in the stall next door chatting away... I'd flush my loo and then go to all the other empty ones and flush them too, just to let the caller know where their mate is! :biggrin1:

Also a shout out 'has anyone got any loo roll please?!?!?' was also effective!

Church is a huge no-no. Especially funerals and weddings!!!
If anyone answered their phone during sex I'd think they should expect to get hurt pretty quickly :lmao:
Do people do that!?!?

I never considered the loo roll question, K8. That's one to bear in mind for future reference.

I once had a friend answer the phone with a breathless, "I'll call you back." Twenty minutes later, he called back and told me he'd been on the receiving end of a blow job. I'm sorry, but I usually turn my phone off before I get started. I don't like interruptions. They spoil the mood.

Why do people feel the need to be "in touch" all the time? I think people appreciate you more if you don't answer the phone immediately every time. It stops them taking you for granted and lets them know you have a life, and that while their call may be important, it's not the most important thing in your life.

Guessing I find the whole cell phone culture strange. I don't even have mine with me most of the time and when I do it's off or silent 50% of the time.

I just find it daunting to feel at everyone's disposal all of the time. Yeah, I could screen calls with the caller ID to not be at everyone's disposal, but I just don't want to be bothered. Of course, there are times when I'm glad for the convenience of it but ....

I think some people should try it. Does anyone remember feeling a bit less stressed or "more free" when they didn't have a phone on their person at most any given time?

Call me old fashioned- call me afraid to commit on any level.

My sister got freaked out one time it came up I was in my underwear while chatting with her on the internet, I can't imagine what she'd think if I was taking a crap or checking out porn.

I had never heard anyone answering the phone in a restroom until very recently, and then it seemed to happen every time I was in a public restroom... a disturbing new trend at best.

Walking around campus is pretty horrible, too. Not to say that it isn't a great time to make a phone call. You're between classes, you have about 15 minutes to handle some business on the fly, efficient use of time. However... watching a group of "friends" walking by and seeing two of them on the phone and three more of them texting.

During sex, though... I'm not a fan of this, but sometimes you have to. I've had friends coming to visit from out of town and if they call from the road there's a good chance they're in need of directions, and I don't think it's fair to leave them lost on the Interstate just because I'm having sex.

Generally a good idea to confer with your partner before just picking up, though. :p

Not long ago, while waiting for a bus, a woman walked up and stood next to me. She looked at me and said "Pardon me, this is a private conversation." It appeared she wanted me to move away. The best I could do was something I heard or read somewhere (George Carlin, I think). Looking her in the eye and with a straight face said I have no problem with going back to prison. End of situation.

As for answering during sex a recent poll showed that 30% of people will answer, the other 70% presumably leave their phones on vibrate.

Seriously though, it does seem that this has gotten completely out of control - CPAs (cell phone addicts) everywhere who cannot break their umbilical cord. How many can possibly be talking to their publisher or financial advisor? Most carry their phones in their hands - now that's insecurity.

If it's something important, they can leave a message or call back. I've never lost a contract because I didn't answer the phone. If I'm with someone and the phone rings, I'll check who's calling. If it's someone I have to talk to, I'll ask if they mind me taking the call. If they do mind, I won't answer. If I do take it, I'll leave the room. It's only polite. Besides, I don't want everyone to know my private business. Nor, by the same token, do I want to know anyone else's private business.

Last year, while on a train into London, I was sitting opposite this woman who answered her phone. It was her boyfriend. She told him where she was and then he proceeded to have a go at her and finally, after about tn minutes of worked himself up enough, he dumped her. She was in tears in a full carriage with another 30 minutes before she could get off the train. I think that was uncalled for. It's bad enough not having the balls to dump her face to face, but to do it when she was on a crowded train and couldn't have any privacy was just evil.
