As this might be of interest to others as well I'll quickly answer here. Usually I use a site like the following:
Reverse Image Search | Quick, Search by Image on Phone or http://tineye.com/
The principle is pretty easy: upload a photo and let the search engine do the work for you. They will look for photos that are either the same or pretty similar. That way you can find out if there are different version of a pic floating around. usually I get results if I'm suspicious of a pic. Doesn't help if the first version of that pic was photoshopped though.
Also, I use reverse image searches to find better quality versions of a photo.
