Yeah, I get the point about the term 'permafrost', I just thought you might be interested...

Odd that the total mass of the ice on Greenland is growing when the glaciers near the coast - at least those the boffins and locals get excited about - are visibly shrinking.

I am interested in things that are happening to the planet :) Just that when I follow a smoker in a car they always hang their smoke out the window so it does not smell up their car. When finished they flick the butt out the window, roll it up to enjoy the aircon. Their butt among the other thousands to become part of the ecosystem. The same ecosystem that gives them the fresh water and food they need, you and I need to survive. Anyway, thank you for answering tbrguy :) You care and think about it, which is the important thing in the end. No more rant :)

Saw this article today via Fox News:

Icy Greenland melting at accelerating rate, study finds | Fox News

According to that article the Antarctic ice cap is actually shrinking: "Between 1992 and 2011, Antarctica lost 1,320 metric gigatons (plus or minus 980) of ice, while Greenland lost 2,940 metric gigatons (plus or minus 940). Western Antarctica is losing significant amounts of ice, while eastern Antarctica is compensating somewhat by gaining some ice."

On the other hand "the Antarctic ice cap is actually getting bigger".

Perhaps its raining more (or snowing). If Snow is falling faster then it will build up more on those bits which havnt melted even though the total area is less. Someone said we just had the worlds second hottest year on record, ever. In britain it was noted for a lot of rain.
