I put the 'us' in as reference to myself having a dual personality (i don't), not needing prescription drugs. (humour). I understand subgirrl, some need to take medication for whatever health reasons. I would be without good friends if they were not available. Continue to take good care of yourself, Ok.

Oh I knew you were being humour-y! Whilst I was entirely serious, the :tongue: was supposed to tell you that I wasn't having a go at you! Obviously it didn't quite work :redface:.

No meds at 60 is all very well but my question would be. How often do you go to see your doctor? If you don't engage in health care you'll never be on anything.

That's why you hear things like "I don't understand how he just dropped dead he was never sick!"
It comes down to the old adage "It's what you don't know that will kill you"

On the other hand if you do go to your doc and are med free at 60 that's great you clearly look after yourself - Good luck with the surgery

Nature has intended me to be dead more than once. I'll take the prescription drugs that saved me thanks :tongue:.

Another thing we have in common! So yes, I will dutifully take my pills so that I live a long life and get to see grandbabies born & grow. :biggrin1:

In defense of the "incompetent" nurses who have asked several times if you are on any medications: it is a Joint Commission requirement regarding patient safety. Lawsuits over medications have changed how medical providers are able to do business, so don't blame the people who are trying to take care of you, blame our litigious society.

And yes, someone in his or her 60s not on any medications is something of an anomaly.

Well, first, congratulations! Not being on any prescription meds at your age is something very uncommon indeed!

Being heavily medicated isn't just an American thing, but something that you will find in all industrialized countries.

A lot of people take too much medication, in general, just like in the coverse, there are probably a lot of folks who should be taking some sort of medication (at least in the short term) but are not.

Best of luck on your surgery!:smile:

I spent 30 years in the transportation industry, with annual physicals. Since then I see my Dr. once every two years and have all age appropriate testing.

Just a note, surgery went well they kept me ovenight , I am home now and need to take it easy for a little while. I am on a perscription for pain pills hopefully I will not need many of them.

Glad you survived the surgery and are back in familiar surroundings.

Hey, young man, count your blessings. If you want a different medical perspective, walk into an ICU, peer through the looking glass, and you will walk away a different man. Or worse, yet, go to your hospital's morgue; they wish they had your problems.

Of course, if you want a more in-depth, tangible perspective, the cemetery offers many options:

1. the young and the old;

2. the small and the great;

3. the rich and the poor;

4. the saved and the unsaved;

5. the sightful and the insightful;

6. the attractive and the least attractive;

7. the powerful and the powerless;

8. the kings and the queens, along with their subjects (think of Egypt).

Finally, I hope these words of wisdom help you.

I'm in the over 50 no med category. I plan on living long enough to be a burden on my son and have him change my diapers. I also plan on being the second person with my name to be in Guinness's book of world records for being the oldest living person. :wink:

Other than a frozen shoulder, which is improving with pt and chiro, I have no major aches or pains. Even when I was in sever pain, I still functioned, did my job, painted my house, moved and shoveled 19 tons of dense grade to level my driveway and 8 truck loads of mulch. I refuse to be handicapped or crippled in any way shape or form.

I'm physically fit, I skate derby, work out once a week and tonight start a yoga class. I do not want to be my parents needing to take handfuls of pills to function or keep things working. Or my siblings who bitch and moan about how bad their _____ hurts and need _____ for it. Screw that shit.

Congrats ghb69 for making it through the surgery without problem. Keep up the good work and speedy recovery!

That twinge in your intestines
I'm over 50 and I take 2 prescriptions that keep me alive, and a statin, which I really don't need but the doctor says is benign, so I take it as cheap insurance. I used to take antidepressants, but my endocrine imbalance has been restored to normal and I no longer need them. I'm fortunate that I only have to take three. When he was my age, my dad was taking a whole mess of them, and now he takes even more.

I'm glad to hear it. :smile:

I take no prescription drugs now because I am breastfeeding and do not want them to affect the baby. When my insomnia gets really bad, I take half an Ambien to reset my body clock, but only as a last resort. I'm lucky. My body is extremely healthy.

My mind on the other hand... :redface::rolleyes::tongue:

oh... Forgot about the estrogen cream for my vagina. That's prescription.
