Hey kids,

Just to let you know, the mods are being inundated with reports of personal ads, web connections and other types of posts appearing in this forum. Yeah, we know!

Here's the problem: that quick link at the top of the home page "What's on your mind?" defaults to the Et Cetera etc. forum. It used to default to New Member Introductions, and we got reports about that!

I know that the powers that be are looking into a fix, but until that happens we'll try to move things to where they belong. You're more than welcome to keep reporting things, but I hope you understand that we're getting dozens of these things, and there's a bunch of work involved in answering all of them.

End of public service announcement.

I thought Rob was going to change it so that people *have* to choose the appropriate subforum before posting? Or something along those lines...

This was suggested in the appropriate section, by me

So far nothing has happened. I'm hoping maybe someone could let us know when this will be fixed? It's been awhile already, and I'm more than willing to wait if need be... But I would like to know that something is being done . Clearly it needs to be, members are getting irritated.

Thank you for everything you do Ellie (and other moderators) I do appreciate it. I really do.

I appreciate that, but if the threads aren’t reported, they don’t seem to get moved, right? Currently there are eight threads on the front page here that should be moved. What exactly should be the process? I was told by a mod not to comment in the thread, but just to report it. Now you’re saying not to report it at all. Is there going to be a mod making regular sweeps just to move threads here?

I just want to be sure I’m doing the right thing.

Nooo, you can still report it, but we're moving as fast as we can.

It is a tedious process, and I'd prefer for that particular feature to just vanish.

It crowded out New Member Intros and now it's inundating this forum.

I'm sure new members can learn how to create a thread the regular way. It's been done before.

is it okay to post a link to the correct subforum(s) if we see misplaced content?

that is what i was doing instead of reporting, but i saw someone mention we aren't supposed to do that.

just want to make sure it is okay to post link or links to proper areas to better educate the newer or lesser aware members in the meantime.

There are no rules against doing that. But what happens is that when the thread is moved then you'll have that weird post, and people will go "What's up with her?"

It makes me tired. And I've got a sinus infection, so if my messages look a little non-sensical you'll know why.

Are you sure they can learn? Some of those misplaced threads come from some pretty old members. But I suppose if you’re typing with one hand...

Yeah, I think that was me. A mod told me not to post in the thread. Just report. Maybe the mod tells the OP how to do it correctly when they move the thread.

What a headache for everyone. :(

Communication from the moderating team to non-moderators tends to be wildly inconsistent from what I've seen. Both from my experience and from the experiences of folks I've talked with on here. I'm sure it's not everyone's experience, but it's frustrating to try to do what you're told only to get a usually anonymous notification saying even more contradictory stuff.

Report stuff, don't report stuff, this is against the terms of service, this isn't against the terms of service even though that's what the ToS says, be helpful to new members, don't post (extremely polite, good intention, with a fucking smiley face emoticon) a suggestion for where a question or showing off may be more well received, and so on.

It is good to see that there is indeed supposed to be a fix in the future for new threads and where they're posted in the Suggestions/Announcements/etc section of the forum.

Why not just create a special forum for these random thought posts?

To your point, maybe have two Et Cetera/Miscellaneous forums. Cuz there appears to be two types of random posts--sexual-themed and non-sexual.

One called Sexually-themed Miscellaneous/Et Cetera and the other NON-Sexual Miscellaneous/Et Cetera. Or something similar. The mods can figure the proper titles out; that's why they get the big bucks, lol!

But, I would still wonder if some folks wouldn't still post mistakenly in the wrong sections! Cuz maybe reading isn't so fundamental for some. Who knows? Perhaps making people actually select a forum (ya know, actually think!) rather than have any default mechanism might help reduce erroneous thread-topic postings? I don't know but I do know what's currently happening ain't the solution. Seems to have caused more problems...

Regardless, this recent change to new posts defaulting to Et Cetera has caused quite a clusterfuck. It's aggravating to open up this Forum and be constantly greeted by folks looking for anything and everything sexual.

It really isn't that hard (no pun intended) to figure out a more appropriate forum in which one can post his/her sexually-themed musings. Or at least it shouldn't be. If you spent a few moments perusing LPSG before hitting post.

Don't know what to say about those "older" posters who are posting in the wrong forum who should know better. Maybe this site is just the first harbinger of the true dummying down of America, lol!

Um, there are quite a few sexually themed forums already on here. Why the creation of another?

Et Cetera, Et Cetera was made exactly for that: random though posts. Some random thoughts are sexual. But Show Offs, Personal Ads, and Web Connections already are in place and have been for a while.

The problem is that there is a default for quick posts, and it's this forum. It would be wonderful if a user clicked Submit and got an error message saying "Choose a forum." Apparently, this software did not have that option. But I know he's working on it.

It will be annoying in the mean time, but I'm happy that it's being addressed. Until it's resolved I'll be patient.

Thanks for keeping us informed lovely lady. I appreciate it lots :heart::sun:

I agree Ellie. Upon rereading my post, which I wrote in haste on my way out the door to the gym, I realize what I wrote is not what I was trying to convey. Not the first time I've done that! [Removes both feet from mouth]

IMO, more of the threads created by new posters seem to be of some sexual nature. And I get that. As I have said many times, I came here initially for the porn, but quickly tired of that and stayed for the convo.

And I agree that a lot of random thoughts are indeed just that--random. Across the entire spectrum. Upon reflection, I guess my real "beef" here is that I just wish posters, especially those who've been here awhile, would spend a few extra seconds selecting a more appropriate forum, especially for those that are show-off, looking for love, etc.

As @LaFemme said above, perhaps typing with one hand interferes with one's thought process...but I can't use that as an excuse!

I'll now take my cue from @Tight_N_Juicy and be patient. Remind myself that patience in a virtue.

I realize you mods have your hands full. I can only begin to imagine what you all must deal with in a day's work! I apologize for being so quick to post what I did above. I'll work on doing better. And being patient, lol! Patience is a virtue, patience is a virtue.

Thanks @EllieP!

The problem is that people use that quick post function without any thought to where their posts will go. So whatever forum is the default for quick posts gets overrun pretty quickly with random quick post BS.

If they can't insert a choose your forum button and refuse to get rid of quick posts in general, then the best solution is just to make a new forum whose only purpose is to hold quick post topics. That way no other forums will get overrun by these quick post topics. Sure some people might fuck up and post a quick post that belongs in the personals section, but in all honesty if they're too stupid to pit something in the correct forum, their post should just be ignored anyway.

Is it fixed? I don’t see any ads....right now.
