While categorization may be convenient for the reader, for those that do contribute as writers in this forum, they may not want to be categorized.

If categorization is decided upon, the writers who are not in agreement with this format should have the option to have their stories removed.

I see no need to be categorized. I'll take the option.

Hey there all, I just thought I'd try to start a movement to split to a two-section straight/gay subcategory of the larger ficitional stories category, as was already done with the Adult Websites section. Certainly this has been a helpful change for me over there (I waste a lot less time searching that way), and I imagine it will help immensely more in this forum, since it would accomplish two valuable things- for one I don't have to read the first 3 paragraphs of a story before I can tell if it's m/m or m/f (in the certainly less than infrequent case that someone doesn't mark it as such), and for two, and most importantly, it will prevent that feeling of disappointment I get when I find out that all of those bold titles represent stuff that doesn't turn me on. Who's with me?

Hi jgmafia, i hear you, it would be time saving to have a split but as we have seen with the adult forums sub-forums it would need to be a three-way split not just gay and straight. At some point it will be suggested to split another forum for some equally sensible idea and before you know it we end up having ever smaller numbers interacting with each other which really defeats the great community we have here. It really WAS a needed idea with the adult websites forum because of its popularity and quantity of topics. Not everbody are interested in ficticious stories so as a smaller even if very popular forum it is probably best to keep all the stories neatly together.

Agreed. There needs to be some kind of categorization. I wanna know what I'm clicking on. With fictitious stories, you often don't know until you're a page or two in.

In my honest opinion, if you have'nt worked it out by either the title or the end of the first paragraph then stop reading, the author is bad! Just my opinion.

There are so many stories, the ones I like most, that blur the distinction between gay and straight. They are not necessarily bi either. These stories would be left without categories. There are many sites that offer stories in strict categories, and I enjoy the inclusiveness of this site. Therefore, splitting the stories is A STUPID IDEA and I'm categorically AGAINST it.

  1. The categorization must be mandatory or too many authors will skip that step. If an author really feels a surprise twist is that important (and I mean we are talking "The Sixth Sense" level here) then he can apply to the moderators for a dispensation.

Categorization will exclude many uncategorizable stories. Applications for dispensation would turn this forum into a bureaucracy, rather than the free exchange that it is now.

I voted to separate it, but as other have suggested, making a requirement to define the story (MMM, FFF, MMF, MFF) would help find the right story to get us off.

I find stories to clearly top porn content in sexual stimulation.

I'm against this idea.
LPSG will be too 'splitted' if you do that. It's really annoying to have all these little subcategories.
I think it's a better idea if everybody would put the words 'gay' or 'straight' in the title.

Please - you cannot trust a user to know that they have to do that / remember to do it.

and policing that is a waste of the mods time

I support as it saves time for those who have english as second language, we can read far into a story spending much time before finding out no woman in the story! garbage!

Oh for crying out loud, I suggest a little time-saving device for myself and others like me, and I hear calls of homophobia?? That is ridiculous, I have nothing against gays, I'm simply trying to make my life a little easier, that's all! Fine, I don't even really need the split, but as mentioned above, I would love to see a mandatory categorization scheme put into effect, as is done at mcstories and overflowing bra. This way I'd also be able to avoid straight stories featuring weird ass shit like snuff, violence, torture, rape, and bondage (among other bizarre fetishes I just don't get).
yes full agreement. i think it would save the gay men here time also, why do you complain??? even a bisexual would have moods favoring one or the other at times, correct? and forgotten thank yous we all owe to those poster responsible respectful enough to post (m,m) on their threads thank you

I think it's interesting to note that although the poll is heavily leaning toward separation the majority of the posts on the thread have been against the separation.

Oh, nay on separation.

Ok, I will say this, I have definitely been convinced AWAY from the idea of splitting the forum into subcategories by two convincing arguments: 1. the number of stories posted on a daily basis is relatively small, so I imagine a split will only serve to make this forum seem less significant, possibly driving away new potential authors (when in reality, this forum is rather significant because, surprisingly enough, no other worthwhile story website/forum features big dicks as its primary focus). 2. There are some stories featuring bisexuality which could be added to either category. (Personally, however, I do find that stories featuring bisexual men definitely swing further into a gay category while those featuring bisexual women are usually geared towards straight men, though I don't doubt that a small minority are truly bisexual).

However, I am still in support of AT MINIMUM some kind of mandatory categorization scheme, either in the title or at the top of the story (at the very least a m/m, m/f designation or both for bi stories) due to what was said and echoed by a few others- sometimes there's so much "setup time" in a story (something I usually love) that you don't realize you're reading something that won't turn you on until you get as far as the third or fourth installment! This is just a downer, especially when you're looking (as I usually am) to get online, get off ASAP, and then get back to the real world so as not to waste a ton of time searching for arousing material. There are lots of other porn sites I have to check through to get my fix (most porn is pure bs and does nothing to get me excited, so I find myself having to search longer and harder to find decent content), and I'd prefer not to spend 20 minutes in this forum on stuff that gets my hopes up and then leaves me limp and desperately struggling to get to the finish line on whatever I can scrounge up afterwards, hear what I'm saying??

So let me finish with this- regardless of whether the moderators pay any attention to this post or decide to take any action (which I doubt they will) let me just make this plea to all authors now: don't toy with us. You can see that a majority of the pollers in this thread actually do want a category split, so for the love of your fellow lpsg members, give us a little voluntary heads up near the top of the story which clarifies the tone and content we can expect to digest throughout the course of your story!! I don't care if you're f-ing Shakespeare, you're not going to write a story that people of ALL sexual preferences find arousing!! I don't get it, when talking about "hidden surprises" some of you sound as if you're attempting to "trick" people of one sexual preference into liking a story based in another?? Gay people like gay stories, straight people like straight stories, and bi people like straight, gay, and bi stories, THAT'S ALL THERE IS TO IT!!!

...and for those gay people who say they prefer straight stories, WHY???? WHAT THE HELL IS THE APPEAL FOR YOU??? I guess it's just hard for me to understand since I don't get off on stories which only feature lesbianism.

OK, I held back, but a second posting of this issue in the Question, comments section has made me think I should speak up with my opinion. http://www.lpsg.org/170888-should-we-perhaps-talk-about.html

This message was to Hilairy, who I consider to be an intelligent person. But I think my post deseves a posting here also. Please read the the whole thing in the other link to get the full context.

"Where its heading? That is stricly your opinion. OK, lets entertain your theory. Show proof that the splitting of the Adults site section has divided up the members here in a nagative way that has destroyed this site.

There are certain topics that are open to all sexuality. But stuff like the Adults sites and the fictitious stories? That is like going to a buffet and picking out WHAT YOU WANT. What if the restaurant manager told you, "No, you have to separate the lettice from the roman lettuce to create the salad you want because its all mixed in." ?

Its a convinience thing to help people get to the things they prefer. You want a better question? What the hell does a Fictitious Stories section and a Adult site section have to do with a Large Penis Support Group? You could throw those out and this site would still be good. But having them makes it better.

So for the other sections, like the Sex with a Large penis, No, its stupid to split those because there is a lot of cross over that everyone can benifit from. And even then, people still pick what they want to read and comment on. We, as, men have penises and have the same issues with our penises regardless of sexuality.

But smut, which is what the adult sites and fictitious stories are about? That is for something way more superficial. I dont like to pick through them like the salad example looking for things I want. I was doing it anyway, but this "separation" makes it better.

So again, if you can create a case and prove that separating two superficial sections on this site will ultimately destroy it, then I am all ears and will be the first to sign YOUR petition for your cause."

I vote no (cavet coming) but agree I don't always like reading some types of stories. I would require a designation at the end of the title ( F/M;M/M;Bi at least) to give me a bit of a heads up before reading. Such a designation should be required or the story would be automatically removed. This I feel would be a viable compromise though more work for the moderators.

Exactly this. Nothing bursts my bubble more than starting a story then finding something that makes me wince a bit and lose interest in looking through others.

That's one of the big reasons for being a member of this site -- to overcome previous biases and understand the range and dynamic of human sexuality. I'm 100% gay from a practice standpoint (never had intercourse with a woman or desire to, female parts do not turn me on in the least and my life partner is another man), but I generally prefer straight porn to gay porn, video or written. For video, I turn the sound off because the noises women make in them are completely annoying.

My pref is for a categorization, rather than a segregation.
