I personally like LPSG the way it is. I don't really go into the other areas, only the fiction stories, because I love to read and write erotica (and science-fiction, fantasy fiction).
From what I've been observing, if there was going to be a split I'd think it would be between bad and good writing. To me that's worse to weed through then whether a story is "gay" or "straight". I mean, nothing is more of a buzz-kill (cum-kill) than shitty writing.

While I voted to not split up the forum, I think tagging the stories with an appropriate set of codes is perfectly fine. In all my time online reading various and sundry forms of erotica/smut/porn, I would say that a minimal sort of tagging has become fairly standard and commonplace in a number of online archives and/or sites, and simply makes life easier. In all of the online fanfic communities I've been a part of (ranging from - man, I feel old now - Highlander in high school and Supernatural nowadays), everyone has adhered to, at the very least, using the "m/f; m/m; f/f; bi; tg/ts" sorts of tags. It's just something polite an author does for his or her potential audience.

I in fact just added an "m/f" tag to my own story since I was reminded by this thread.

And what about the violent content? Or sado-masochism?, Or the still-lingering 15-year olds with huge ones (I know, another topic)? It's going to take forever to get through all the stories and classify them. And some stories are still being constructed as we read them, with creative surprises thrown in as to sexual orientation. Would this classification limit the creative process?

As an artist of sorts, I vote "no".

If there was a poll to split the entire site up into straight vs. gay, the same thing would happen: the majority of posters would speak against it, but the vote would be for it.

ESPECIALLY if it was an anonymous poll.

I'm sure that tagging all of these stories would take a while, and perhaps some sort of guidelines should be set about old stories that were written before current policies on content. But that doesn't mean we can't start to expect that people start to tag their current or future work.

Insofar about violent content, well, just throw in an "nc" or "viol" tag, depending on what exactly is going on in the story. For stories that contain sadomasochism, well, "bdsm" or "sado/maso" are reliable enough tags in my experience.

Tagging a story simply means that you're letting the readers know what is going on in the story, it doesn't constrict or limit your creativity. You can start off your grand tale of sordid smut with Jack McHung getting it on with Katie O'Stacked and tag it as simply "m/f." But say after a few entries, Jack's having Steve Goesdeep join in with and without Katie so now you just update it to "m/f m/m mmf." But, say, Jack loses a bet with a genie and now becomes Jane Futasweetie on occasion, so you can toss in a "futa" or "tg" tag for completeness's sake.

I don't know, this is just my experience in writing stuff outside of LPSG, though. Everywhere I've submitted fic to outside of LPSG, this sort of tagging is pretty much expected and unextraordinary.

I voted yes, but I don't care if the boards split or if people just post what the orientation is in the title, as long as I don't have to waste my time sifting through stories just to find the ones that turn me on.

I voted yes because is anoying to try to figure out what kind of story it is.
Once i happend to see a superhero story (dont remember wich) but when i was on the midle of the story i figure out that it was gay.
There are some people that label their storys, if there was a mandatory flag to clasiffy the story the split wouldn't be necesary.

This is an awesome petri-dish view of our politics. As usual the majority is silent, while the minority is very vocal. In these four pages, I think I only saw two posts in favor of splitting, even though the poll is 77% in favor of a section split. I must point-out the Hillary voters, though. They were "for it, before they were against it". Maybe this is why senators should READ the item before voting...

I'm still against splitting the forum, but am starting to lean towards it. The arguements against putting labels at the end of titles is getting to me. "Artistic creativity" is not being compromised (if I go to the "Museum of Modern Art" I know I'm not seeing "old masters"). And the whole "If you don't like that type of story don't read it" well that in it self becomes a type of contradiction because if its not labeled ...

Label or split the board.

Better yet; the moderators should solve the controversy by eliminating the board entirely. Ah, yes "a pox on both your houses."

Sometimes I get the impression that a lot of our gay friends think that if we straight guys were just exposed to enough gay material, we would be realize just how sexy it is, and be converted! Voila!
