Do you have some terrible illness that is making you feel this way mem?

They are drug dealers because they deal in drugs. There is no malice. They aren't selling people heroin and injecting it into them. I should think most pharmaceutical companies are altruistic and want to help, not hurt.

It doesn't cost pennies to synthesise new complex drugs in a laboratory. As drugs become more advanced, they generally cost more. There is money in the business of medicine, yes. Because most people need it or will need it at some point. If the industry made no money (or a loss) people would not come to work and research and development into new treatments and cures would suffer.

If you want to talk about unethical let's talk about football players and the ludicrous amount they get paid to stand on a pitch for 90 minutes.

"They don't really care about sick people. They are drug dealers."

I suggest you stop reading whatever publication you read that in:tongue:

No, I don't, but my mother does have a terrible illness that makes me feel this way. I wish health care was a non profit business. Too many people with health plans are denied on the basis of profit to the company. Doctors in HMO's are rewarded for keeping costs down at any extent.

Medicine is a necessity that you can not scrimp on.

With food, you can choose your own budget

With clothing you can get a new pair of Jeans for $10 and a t-shirt for $5.

Energy is regulated. They can not charge whatever they want.

You can try older cheaper medicines that may work as well.

You can buy less expensive food, but we all have to eat or die. When food costs go up across the board you have no choice but to pay and do without something else.

I want to know where you are shopping for clothes. I want to shop there.

Only some energy is regulated and that's being deregulated right now.
Gasoline is not regulated, and they can charges any price they want.
Natural gas is being deregulated, look at what happened in the south a couple of winters ago. People's gas bills tripled and more. Thousands were turned off because they couldn't pay. Electricity is being deregulated, look at all that mess in California three years ago. Blackouts, bills tripled and more.

I don't know what sheltered corner of the world you live in, but I may want to move there...

Non profit is non happening!

Being pissed at drugs companies for making money is like being angry at a dog for having four legs. It's a dog's nature to have four legs. The nature of business is such that if you don't turn a profit, your business will 'die'.

Business (selling a product) is the only viable way to ensure R&D and other aspects of the pharmaceutical business can continue. You think they should give drugs away for free and rely on donations?

Money makes the world go round. And it helps drugs companies travel the world in search of new drugs and strange exotic plants with unique healing properties. etc...

Not always true. Some new medications are breakthroughs, but too expensive to get unless a health plans covers it.

You can buy less expensive food, but we all have to eat or die. When food costs go up across the board you have no choice but to pay and do without something else.

Food is not that expensive. You can live on Ramen noodles or rice, beans and canned tuna. (I'm not saying I do this, but you can shop around) You can get a whole frozen meal or about $1 on sale. Some Banquet frozen meals are pretty good.

I want to know where you are shopping for clothes. I want to shop there.

I'm not saying that I buy $10 jeans, but they are at Walmart.

Gasoline is not regulated, and they can charges any price they want. Not true price gouging in crisis times is a crime.

I don't know that much about energy, but our government will try to sell us down the river.

Come one down, NJ (a short train ride from NYC) is just as expensive as Cali. If you want to live above your means, it will only get you in trouble.
