Phobias

Oh if only! However you're on the exact antipode from where I live. Shark attacks are rare up in my part of the world but we do have some enormous great whites in the waters. And it's not just sharks, it's what else could be down there. Sharp objects or shellfish, eels, lampreys, jellyfish, pike, barracuda, even dead bodies. Don't laugh. A friend of my sister's was swimming in a local lake when she felt a hand on her thigh only to discover it was the body of a girl missing from a boating party for two weeks prior.
Yup, it's all there. Some rivers around here are so polluted I wouldn't dare enter them, but... I like nature, so I enter her rivers if I get the green light. There's tonnes of bodies, not so many human but others... they just aren't as recognisable after more thoroughly decomposing, as their cells intermingle with the water itself ;)

I don't think my fear is unreasonable. There IS shit down there! Really scary nasty shit and I have no desire to discover it. No stupid fence is going to keep out The Bloop! I can snorkle in clear water just fine, doesn't bother me a bit. So long as I can see what's under and around me, I'm cool.
No more unreasonable than any of my fears.
I know it could be there too, I know it could panic/hurt/kill me at any time, but I just listen to some Eye of the Tiger and it's all good :D
I've been diving too, sometimes with only a foot or two of visibility,... worst one was when the air tank seals busted at depth, both regs dropped out, and my buddy was trapped. Couldn't ascend without some serious health risks... nearly dislocated my arm as I clamped my hand around the seal but air kept on pouring out... no air, just held my breath and went to find my diving buddy...
Coulda died, but survived another day instead.

The bloop probably wouldn't hit shores... too vulnerable to the real monsters (humans). And apart from the few that are incapable of feeling fear, we all got fears. Without fear we can't prove ourselves courageous.

I will do that sometimes. It used to really bother me that people could hear me urinating but now I'm much, much, better after convincing myself that:

A. I don't have to explain to anyone what I'm doing in a men's room stall.

and

B. It's weirder if you don't make any noise. If you're going to piss make a loud noise because that's what guys with big dicks do and I don't want people determining how small I am by pissing weakly. Irrational perhaps, but it helps my irrational fear.
Haha yeah, it's not always used for number 2s, and if you aren't doing anything in there they might get other ideas ;)

Ok just done a search and was surprised there is not a thread on this. Was just wandering what unusual phobias people have??

I got some pretty normal ones (clowns and zombies) but then again I also get freaked out by getting sticky, anything sticky on my hands and I start to panic same with cum i cant have it anywhere near me something about it just completly freaks me out.

So anyone else have any odd ones like that?

I understand some people are obsessed with bold fonts ?!!
Thankfully, this does seem to be a very rare compulsion ...

Frogs. Yep, that's right. They freak me the fuck out! I have had my heart stop and my throat close up when encountered unexpectedly by one. No shit!! My phobia came from traumatic childhood experience. A "friend" of mine and I used to walk around this lake she lived by, she would catch little tree frogs and chase me around with them, throwing them at me, they'd land on my back or get in my hair. Ewwww! I hate that little bitch, to this day I outta whip her demented little frog touching ass. Anyway, that's my only phobia, and it's not too bad, as long as I stay away from swampy water and such.

I try not to let to many people in on that phobia, because then they feel the need to see how freaked out they can make me with a "little harmless frog". But I don't think any of you are going to hunt me down to taunt me with a frog. Right? Okay, good!

Oh, and cool thread!

Fears and phobias i think can be different... and some can be the same. For example i think i have a fear of height. (I don't know really, because i don't find myself in high places. But there is this one high rise building with an office window that goes from the ceiling to the floor, and standing too close to it creeps me out). However I'd say I definitely have a phobia of maggots, especially moving ones. Never could look at em.

Ice cream vans.....does anyone here have this phobia? I don't know why in the world I have this fear, but if I hear the familiar 'jingle' (usually 'greensleeves') I get cold and clammy and find myself moving AWAY from the jingle which will inevitably lead to a white van selling ices and running children...totally gets to me.

Also, as much as I love living by it, swimming in it...the sea/ocean..if I am flying over it..or on a boat (highly unlikely unless strictly necessary) in the middle of a sea or an ocean, with no land in sight....I feel extremely uncomfortable, especially when in a boat.

Are you sure its not tinny off key renditions of greensleeves you have an aversion to???? Coz I know that noise always makes my stomach churn:biggrin1:
