Try this phone number math trick:
    ________________________________________________
Here is an unbelievable math trick. I wonder who came up with this and why
that person is not running the country!?!

    1. Grab a calculator. (you won't be able to do this one in your head)
    2. Key in the first three digits of your phone number (NOT the area
    code)
    3. Multiply by 80
    4. Add 1
    5. Multiply by 250
    6. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number
    7. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number again.
    8. Subtract 250
    9. Divide number by 2

    Do you recognize the answer?

Extra bonus points if you figure out how this trick works (please don't post it publicly - you will ruin the fun for other readers). Hint: think about phone numbers in a general way (not just about yours).

Yes, it only works for phone numbers with seven digits. It works for Canada and the United States. I don't know about other countries.

It's always fun to see these things work, but it's not hard to see how this one works. Don't worry, I won't ruin the fun.

Hmm, I think that there's something wrong with your phone number. Please call your local service provider to have it changed.

It's a fun little 'trick,' and simple enough to see once you translate the steps into algebra.

Oh, if you're in a country that uses 6 digit phone numbers, multiply by 8 instead of 80 in step 2.
