Thousands of hazardous plastic chemicals​ The most comprehensive report to date of compounds in plastic has found a laundry list of hazardous ingredients. Of more than 16,000 chemicals found in plastics or thought to be used in them, at least 4,200 are “persistent, bioaccumulative, mobile and/or toxic”, according to a group funded by the Norwegian Research Council. For more than 10,000 chemicals no hazard data were available, and for more than 9,000 there was no publicly available information about which plastics they are used in.
