so in porn i read they use wide angle lenses to accentuate size. I bought a wide angle attachment for my iphone but the 15X macro lens makes things look bigger but you have to get microscopically close. the .45 lens super wide is no use.

I basically look bigger without the clip on lens.

are there any photographers out there who can give me insight and help with this?

ive been researching but i can't find any write ups or clips on how this phenomenon works.

thank you!

It might be easier to understand by comparing with a 'dolly zoom' effect, like this clip from Jaws

In that 4 second clip, the camera moved toward the subject while the lens was zoomed from telephoto to wide. As the lens zoomed wider, the background seemed to shrink because the wider lens could capture a wider image. (ie: more background) At the same time, the camera physically moved toward the actor's face so it got bigger in the frame...even while the background was getting smaller.

The same principle can be applied to fixed-length (non-zoom) lenses: to make a subject look bigger compared to its background, choose a moderately wider lens but move closer to keep the subject looking big. But buyers probably want clip-on lenses to widen the image so much that those clip-on lenses are probably too much wider than a normal lens, resulting in unnatural or distorted image.

right. yes, this effect was first used and made famous by hitchcock.

my question though is what are the measurements of a wide angle and something appropriate? it's scientific.

i don't know what 15X means vs .45. what i'm getting from those dimensions mean and translate into a shot. there's so much information on it it's hard to get the basics or find the specific information i'm looking for. thank you1
