Second off, there are men and women on this board who post very nice, well meaning and well thought out, interesting and sometimes amusing posts. To those, thank you and skip this diatribe.
Third, there are a lot of men, boys, women (?), girls (?) who post often and claim to be HUGE, and by that I mean 12-18 inches in length and 8-12" in circumference. There were quite a lot of posts of that sort in the "Young and Hung" section under the topics "Over 12 and Under 18" and a few other.
Can I really believe that there are men out there that large? I can do a few things. The first is to look at variations in physical size amoung humans.
For instance, there are men over 8' tall (at least there have been in recent history) and women over 7' tall, so perhaps 18" long and 12" around penis' are possible. On the other hand, the variation in height shows the tallest men having heights of 150% the average man (~9' of Robert Wadlow, see GBWR and ~6' average US male, okay 5'8" - 5'10" but round up) which translates to a 9" long and 7.5" around penis.
Going another route, women's breasts show a wide variety in size. First off, I assume that the average cup size to be a B (1" difference between bust and chest), which is a statistic I read and something I believe because looking for a bra for my wife at Victoria's Secrect showed the 34B bins to be the most depleted. Next I find the largest cup size advertised online of GG (9" bigger around the bust than chest). Then I consider the volumes these bras imply assuming that the volume around the chest can be roughly approximated by a cylinder with the circumference being give by the bra and cup size. Assuming the heights of the cylinders to be the same, then the ratio of GG to B depends only on the ratio of the square of the circumferences. Finally assuming that the chest measurements are the same for the GG and B cup women then the actual breast size difference is 1.5:1 (assuming a 34GG compared to a 34B). But that's in volume, so going up from the volume of the average 6" long 5" circumference penis of about 12 cubic inches gives 18 cubic inches and assuming the length to circumference ratio to be about 1.5:1 then the large penis would be about 8" long and 5.5" around.
That's two different estimates that give about the same answer, not exactly the same, but not incredibly different.
This makes it easy for me to believe the guys who claim to be in the 8-10" range for length and 6-8" range of circumference, but makes it very hard for me to believe the claims of guys in the 11" plus length range and/or 9" plus circumference range.
Still I know there are men that large out there. Long Dong Silver was that large (that's Dong, not Dan). I've seen picture and vidoes and even conservatively he was over a foot in length, as were "The Texas Longhorn" and "Mr. Mx." But all three of them (one black, two white) looked to be in the 6-8" circumference range. And none of them seemed to have a "working" erection.
So what's the "long and short" of it? I just can't believe the claims of guys in the 11" plus length and/or 9"+ girth range. And espcially not when those claims are coupled with "rock hard" erections. Even John Holmes (who was between 10" (if you believe a lot of people) and 12" (if you believe Ron Jeremy)) and was more often than not "half hard." Most of the big guys in porn today look to be in the 8"-10" length range with a few that might be legitimate 12-inchers.
I can believe that guys can use a vacuum pump to obtain temporarily outrageous sizes, take a look at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jojospumpgroup/?yguid=94895042 as an example of one guy who does it.
