There’s a guy in the garden center at Walmart I always thought was kind of cute. The other day I was there outside getting some bags of soil (for my garden) and he was out doing some work. He saw my HRC equality sticker on my trunk. He said “I like your HRC equality sticker.” Was he hinting that he is gay, and possibly interested?

Possibly, but just as possibly not. HRC stands for equality and human rights, so he may just be a person who supports the movement toward a more just society.

If you had a giant rainbow across your rear windshield and he commented on that as being awesome, you may be looking at a gay guy who likes your spirit.

I've donated to the Human Rights Campaign and even had a sticker on one of my previous cars and I'm straight, so one does not necessarily have anything to do with the other. Then again, it's also possible he was using that as a hint or a pick-up line. Likely the only way to find out is either by straight up asking him or for the subtle approach, just bring up the sticker again and use it to segue into a conversation over the organization or LGBT issues and see what he has to say. Since he's already mentioned knowledge and possible support for the organization, there's less of a chance he'd respond negatively should he feel you've mistaken him for being gay.

Regardless of if he's gay or not, he's probably someone you (or I) would want to know better. Amirite, or amirite????? (Especially in the south)

i would just take it as a compliment and move on. it's the same as a guy or gal saying "hey, nice car"... just cause he recognizes the symbol doesn't mean anything about you. it just means he knows what it means.
