Hello,

first of all I wanna preface this with I’m not a doctor or in any sort of medical field, so I’m not trying to imply that I have a big sample size of people to survey here. So please don’t take what I say literally or think I’m trying to state anything as a medical fact.
That being said, I digress.
Over the past few years I have noticed that what I would consider, is an increase in medical diagnoses for PID, ovarian cysts and to some degree endometriosis. Although endometriosis I don’t necessarily think is necessarily related or that it should even be included in this, but I have heard it being tossed in by doctors so I figured I’d mention it as well. So my question/ observation is that what I thought I knew about PID (pelvic inflammatory disease) is changing. I’ve had more than a few female close friends say they have either had it or are currently being told by doctors they have PID. I’m not contesting their diagnosis, but I have known people in the past that have had that and they stated why they got it. My own research also suggest that it is most commonly associated with STI’s but could also happen from other non STI bacteria entering into the uterus via the cervix. However, the women who tell me they had it or have it within the last year or two vehemently assert it is not from STI’s in their case. A few of them were told ovarian cysts could be the problem and a few other said endometriosis could be the problem as well. Some have been diagnosed with all three. However, when I asked how they (doctors) determined this most said it was a snap diagnosis from their GP based on their symptoms. With more than a few going to their gyno for further testing, all came back with no detectable issues from the tests they performed, ultrasound, cervical swap, or biopsy. They simply were told they had PID for sure, but also maybe endometriosis or cysts. From the people who have had it in the past they just received antibiotics and were linked with an STI as the cause of PID. However, I’m not suggesting these women are just not telling me that or that even medically they could be similar.
I am just commenting on how I feel like PID is being diagnosed more frequently these days without being linked to an STI. I have also noticed that a lot of women are being diagnosed with endometriosis and I’ve seen a huge increase in commercials for medications for endometriosis.
My question or comment to you ladies is there something in the air that is different now days that causes this issue to be more common. All of the women said their doctors explained it was “very common” to which comments like that I am skeptical because of the lack of causal relations between PID, ovarian cysts and endometriosis. They all seem like very different diagnoses. Perhaps I just don’t understand how this works as I’m not a woman myself, haha. But I would like to know from other women if they’ve dealt with this themselves it perhaps have a feeling towards it. I’ve also done lots of research into the increasing rates of STI’s in the US and the increase in these types of diagnosis being on an upward trend as well.

Could there be a medical smoking gun for this or even maybe it’s just an easy ploy to get women on more medication. Also, side note, all of these women were told to get on birth control as a method of controlling the symptoms they were complaining about. Perhaps I don’t understand but I don’t get why an infection can be cured by hormones.

So if you have a comment or just think I’m an idiot, please comment because I just wanna know more!
Thanks!

I have endometriosis and PCOS.

It's caused by a hormonal imbalance which no doctor has ever identified the cause of, and I've been through all the tests, it's not caused by anything other than my hormones.

I've had symptoms since before I was sexually active at all.
