Wait!... Since when are there redwood groves in Maryland?
There are approximately 150 Chinese redwoods (genus cypress) bordering my property on Chesapeake Bay; in this country and in England they are called Cunninghamia, after a botanist at Kew Gardens who first imported them to England. The oldest ones are about 90 years old and are now about 80 feet tall. They grow rapidly when young and then they grow slowly for the next hundreds of years. Their maximum adult height should be about 180 to 200 feet tall. Their cones are amazingly tiny; 5 fit in the palm of my hand. They are extremely difficult to grow, but once you get one started, they propogate underground and sprout a baby tree some distance from the parent. There were only 30 as recently as 21 years ago and by carefully nurturing the babies, I now have an entire grove of beauties. I have seen the California variety and I think these are quite similar to their American cousins.

Ditto... Actually, I subscribe to all the threads that you regularly post pics in, so I don't miss them...
