Not sure if this has become known globally, but things are scary and very sad here at the moment. Personally, I’m okay and unaffected. But there’s so many bushfires around the country and as weather conditions are worsening everyone is bracing for the worst.

Info here NSW and QLD bushfires: State of emergency as NSW faces first catastrophic day

People are dead, homes have been destroyed, people have had to leave their farm animals to perish, at least 350 koalas have perished in New South Wales alone: https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/amp...a-cremation-after-blazes-20191110-p5396f.html

Emergency crews are working overtime. Wildlife rescue volunteers are working around the clock also to tend to dehydrated and severely burned kangaroos, koalas, birds, bats, etc. It’s so sad and I hate not being able to help, other than donating.

Yesterday the city was full of smoke haze and apparently smoke levels were 3 times worse than Beijing. So it’s also a worrisome time for asthmatics and such.

So please just keep us all (including our beloved wildlife and animals) in your thoughts.

I certainly will. Unfortunately, I’m well aware of the devastation bushfires bring.
:(

I live next to bushland but have always been lucky enough that the bushfires haven’t come close to my house. Also probably has a lot to do with the fact that there is a fire station only a minute away.

Unfortunately, and what gets me wild is that most of these bushfires are deliberately lit. It would be the same in the US.

It's hot, it's dry and it's windy...so clowns go out and deliberately start fires.

Up to 85% of fires are started either deliberately, suspiciously or by "accident". ...I'm semi rural in Bris. Were lucky where we are though.

I'll be thinking of you guys!! Where I used to live in Florida every February to May (our dry season) there was a dire threat of fires, breaking out left and right. Some were malicious and intentional, others were controlled burns that got out of hand.

Stay safe.

A lot of these ones haven’t been lit deliberately to my understanding. Some would have been but many just happen due to unintentional sparks that end up turning into much more due to weather conditions (including drought). That’s why burning off is so important prior to the dry season.

Fuckin A that's horrible rtg!
This sounds like a good location. I feel happy knowing this. It's awesome that you're 1 min away from a fire station... seems like a bit of a miracle to me

Thank you for keeping us updated. Sending positive vibes your way hun.

Yeah, I feel for everyone up in New South Wales and Queensland getting absolutely belted by the drought and the firestorm conditions. Three lives lost, hundred or so properties destroyed and it's far from over. Meanwhile in Melbourne's eastern suburbs it was minor hailstorm conditions and pretty fucking cold for this time of year (less than a month away from summer).

Stay safe, rtg!

The conditions yesterday weren’t as bad as predicted... but I still wouldn’t say anything about the situation is positive since people and animals are dead and plenty of homes have been lost.

Did you know that the acting Fire Commissioner in NSW lost his Dad and 3 other men in a backburn a few years ago? His Dad taught him all about fire and it's risks through his youth. It can go horribly wrong.

Gone are the days of tossing a burning stick into bush and letting it burn. Because now, the bush has changed....agriculture, people live and work in the bush to help feed you, me and all of us who go to buy our food... so you and I don't need to go out and dig, hunt for it ourselves.

Read the facts of how bushfires start, from the Australian Institute Of Criminology...which I posted.

I was a kid once, I started a bushfire unintentionally, scared the shit out of me because I thought it was safe.

Read the facts...yeah, I get it, everyone has their own opinion.....but hey...this is from a few days ago in WA... https://thewest.com.au/news/perth/t...-lighting-fire-in-perths-south-ng-b881381772z

In August this year 3 teenage girls were charged with Arson in Kempsey...along with a couple of weeks ago the firefighter caught starting fires in NSW...and the recently imprisoned Firefighter and brother jailed over ferocious blazes that threatened homes, hospital

These are the ones who are stupid enough to be caught.

Keep your understanding, and deny the facts... you are welcome to your own opinions.

My time is precious, I don't have the excess of youth to educate the ignorant.

What the fuck are you on about. The article you posted was from 10 years ago.

My father was a fireman and I’ve grown up learning about this stuff so I’m far from ignorant.

I didn’t say that none were deliberately lit. There was also one in qld lit this week by a teenage boy which burned down 20 homes. I was merely stating that many of the fires were not deliberately lit...as the drought and high temperatures mean that there is a higher risk of ignition. That is also backed by science. Since you’re so educated I shouldn’t have to share some simple facts with you, but I will anyway The facts about bushfires and climate change - Climate Council

If you want to start shit in a thread this is not the one to do it in.

Thought I’d share some more of my “ignorance” with you which was in relation to my previous reference to burning off. Fire management has always been a huge aspect of my culture, which isn’t practiced enough by the westernised culture of Australia: Traditional Aboriginal burning in modern day land management - Landcare Australia
