Careful. One of his other identities might hear you and try to get you banned.

    BAD FORM!!!

It was obvious bullshit. An obvious pack of lies, damnable lies, and more bullshit. By removing it, you've taken away one demonstration of his lies and added credibility to some folks' charge that there's something sinister going on behind the scenes.

If you want to delete posts, delete this one and put back the other in which a liar exposes himself for what he is. By deleting the posts that demonstrate the bad behavior, you are courting another major flareup of the sub rosa flame war that continues on this board because nobody has ever adequately explained what happens when a member gets banned.

I'd like to think if I were involved a moderator would have told me. Since I've been scolded by a moderator in the past for possibly hurting the feelings of a member who didn't have the balls to tell me himself. :irked:

Since someone is going to answer anyway, it might as well be me as I'm here:

Hmm, returned because it was a temporary ban, returned illegally under a new persona, or said 10 Hail Marys & 5 Our Fathers and was welcomed back like a prodigal son or daughter?

FWIW: I get that permanent bans no longer exist. I just think it's a bad idea.

Yes, I know, that is just one of many things upon which we shall just have to agree to disagree.

I don't mean to stir up any trouble, but as an internet illiterate , it makes me a bit nervous. Can someone actually copy someone elses IP? And what happens if say is 2 users are using different computers on the same wifi signal? (i.e. hotel high speed or a large buisiness complex)

sorry if these are stupid questions

That's too bad, cuz if you were talking to me, I would have had to come tie you down and torture you with feathers, hands, and tongue until you took every word back (and then some) :biggrin1:

Those are not stupid questions. To answer the one about our ability to copy each other's IP addresses: The quick answer is 'No.' For me to copy your IP, as one member from another, is not possible. Of course, I could just ask you to run IPCONFIG and tell me your IP, but it wouldn't be good for much. I'd have no way to trick the BBS software into thinking I was you by telling it I was logging in from your IP. Kotchanski was right about ManlyBanisters and me -- you will find messages posted here by both of us from IP addresses we've shared in our respective countries when we visit. In fact, that's the case today, as we've both logged in from the same computer to post on the site. Now, if there were someone other than MB and me with the same IP, it would almost surely mean that something suspicious was going on. But there are only two of us.

Proxy servers are a discussion for another day, but the short version on that topic is that while it's possible to use proxies to hide the real IP one is logged in from, it is not possible to give the proxy server a specific address to pass to the host. It can be done programmatically, but that requires a level of sophistication that few of the users here will have, especially the one this thread is about.

So, if another LPSG member came to California to visit me and we used the same computer to log on to this site, could we both be banned inadvertently?

Possibly. MB and I usually drop the mods a note to let them know that we're going to be posting from the same address, but this time I forgot. Turns out she did tell one of them that I was on my way here, so they could have put two and two together had they checked.

Any road, such a ban would be temporary. They'd rescind it soon as you told them what was what.
