For most of the questions my answer was "It depends..."

But whatever.

Many of the questions do seem far too black and white, and simplistic. Although, I think there's something to the having to make a "difficult decision". The test is surely not an exhaustive examination of an individual's belief system. As a quick gauge of where one falls on a simply crafted "political spectrum", however, it seems to function sufficiently.

I agree that many, if not most, of the questions reflect the jingoistic, high-contrast black/white dichotomy that is such a symptom of the erosion of nuance in American political discussions right now. The flaws were more obvious than the merits of the quiz; it's sorta like a Cosmo quiz except sex is substituted with politics.

Even so, I find it telling that only one of the responders to this thread had any score in the positives (re: conservative/right), and then just barely.

Left-leaning centrist.
As Drifter says, a UK-centric quiz would probably rate us slightly less to the left than this one.

Easily bored: 35%
Too f**king impatient: 65%

I got all the way through the second page then noticed "page 3 of 6" on the top and went "FUCK MEEEE!"

(and yeah, some of the questions are vague as hell while others too narrow in their options)

If you were too impatient to complete the test, you lack standing to comment in the thread. Sorry. But that's my take.

Actually, I think the test is relatively standard, having recently completed an entire entry assessment, as a basis for a friends application to a well known firm.

The personality multiple choice was constrained to only 3 boxes, with 100 questions, each subtly not allowing you to fix the test. An example would be, "tick what you are most like, & least like" - the choices being " A megloaniac, a hard hearted bastard, or an absolute wuss". Well that was my intepretation.

Because the questions subtly repeated single examples, mixed with others, & the test was so long, it forced out underlying personalities, despite the fact you might not identify with any of the options.

This test was only marginally US-centric, & clearly strongly agreeing, or disagreeing with a posit (i.e willing to voice opinions about, to protesting & up), would put any respondent into a more extreme box.

The oddest thing about the results that I've seen, is how almost everyone here is Libertarian Left, especially some posters who would seem to be slightly more Authoritarian Left Authoritarian Left - Statist - WikiConstitution.

I'd conclude that's because everyone wants the State to piss of out of their private life, especially their sexual habits!

Very disappointingly - all the successful shysters in politics & institutions appear to have been authoritarian bastards.

A bit of a slap in the teeth for us! We'll rise without a trace.

You are entitled to have your take. Mine is that all are welcome to comment on the thread. Whether they completed the somewhat flawed survey or not. What harm is done if they do?

A bit of sarcasm on my part.

"Withdrawn, your honor."

I found my score odd, considering that almost everything I voted on that was an economic issue I strongly agreed with the position that I perceived as preventing serious economic stratification (I favor strong regulations that forcibly prevent any one individual from getting nearly as wealthy as people do today. I also think that large corporations have gotten way too big and way too powerful). I favor capitalism regulated to benefit society, not the CEO.

I honestly think the scores I got on this test are different now than the last time. Gotta see which thread this test was posted on before to make a comparison.
You are right.
http://www.lpsg.org/151705-political-compass-quiz.html It's the same test as the one Joll posted over a year ago. I took it twice in the same thread. I didn't check to see if the questions had changed. But my scores did.

-1.48, -5.90

-3.75, -3.69

-2.38, -5.18

can't make up my mind

Thanks for finding the thread. I knew someone had posted the test previously.

September 2009
Economic Left/Right: -3.62
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.03

February 2011
Economic Left/Right: -4.62
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.72

Not much of a change from where I was before, but still a slight shift in economic and social beliefs. Interesting.

Economic Left/Right: 6.88 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -0.56 I agree that the level of subtlety here could use some work. "It depends" is the only real answer.

Not really...

Any answer that would be -"it depends" would fall into the agree, or disagree, rather than strongly agree/disagree category!
