I was a bit surprised to hear a while ago that the Dalai Lama did not support same-sex marriage. I wonder whether that position was reflected in his score.

A lot of Buddhists oppose abortion, too.
But much more softly than is seen in the American political landscape.
The idea, I guess, is sanctity of life.
But beings are privileged over positions.
If you told him you were gay, he would not think twice.

i know...it is reserved for only a very select few who display the same absurdity and pigheaded allegiance to useless partisanship in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
Rubber-spined peeps like me iz safe, then?
Goood.
(But isn't Willtom just little less reflexive than ...?)

I'll lie down and await the monsoon.

well, my treatise on this is rather simple...

every willtom needs a trinity.

that is the title to my dissertation on partisanship.

each loony partisan needs their mirror image on the other side, otherwise they simply cannot debate, or even exist properly in the absence of the other. it creates a void too complex for their simple and narrow partisan view to deal with.

they are unable to deal and debate with more complex and flexible political thinkers, who evaluate issues and are not beholden to the type of ideology and demagoguery people like willtom and trinity need.

it was willtom who finds himself in such difficulty when attempting to engage me...

he cannot possibly comprehend how someone thinks that pot and gay marriage should be legalized, religion kept out of school, stem cell research fully explored, universal health care achieved, but also that Iran should be bombed back in to the stone age and that the estate tax be abolished.

the second he hears the last two, his immediate reaction is *RIGHT WINGER!!!!!*, same as when Trinity hears "Gay marriage or universal health care" the immediate reaction is *LEFT WINGER!!!!!*

they cannot differentiate, and as such, they go into virtual meltdown when dealing with people who are truly pragmatic politically, which is the furthest thing from them politically. that is why, even though i have always reprinted a laundry list of my positions, Willtom, still can only confront me with this recent gem....
"And I love how you pretend to be "balanced" and sagacious and middle-of-the-road-pragmatic when, in most cases, you simply do not want to leave yourself politically vulnerable by honorably taking a side on a debate. You stay neutral and then take potshots at others from the sidelines."

of course, he went silent, when i provided 18 positions that i am already clearly on record for here...of course, that confused his rather limited brain, much the same as is easily done to Trinity in similar circumstances. they cannot differentiate independent thought, from the opposition, if it diverges in any way too far from their own side...

my positions could never be construed as "middle of the road" like he says. I am independent, which is very different from middle of the road...usually, the only people who see others as "middle of the road", are those too far on their own side to see they are totally off the pavement.

partisans, like Willtom and Trinity, in short, are morons.

Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: -4.75
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.1

Here's where I sit.
I'm sitting just about where the Dalai Lama has his perch ... and I'm a bit more libertarian than Mahatma Gandhi.

So it says ...

I'm -4.75 and -5.28.

We're practically twins. (says the creepy "let's be friends" guy.)

That's because the top quadrants are "Authoritarian" which is what most powerful people are.

I'm in the bottom left quadrant, along with (if I remember correctly from way back when I took this quiz) the Dalai Lama, Gandhi, and Nelson Mandela.

Ahem. Should rich people be treated with medicine and poor people left to die mercilessly?

Agree or disagree?

I took it to mean: 'Should wealthier people be able to pay for 'superior' private care, while less wealthy people make do with what's available for all on the NHS (in the UK).' Maybe wouldn't apply in the States, though?
