Imagine a child who stumbled upon this site yesterday. The front page is a forum, and most children will just think BORING and leave.

But now look at these penis icons today. They are so like the dog bone icons on lots of sites for children. And children will know you are supposed to click the bone. What this site has done has used an icon which makes the front page of the site specifically attractive to children and encourages them to click through.

THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.

It may not be legal. The USA's Child Online Protection Act (1998) imposes a duty to protect children from materials harmful to minors. This seems to be a direct invitation to children to view.

However tiny the risk it is a risk and it is a needless risk.

Do you agree that the penis icons should be removed?

Calm down, Doris.

Cock shapes on an Adult forum site are nothing compared to thousands of other things children could stumble across on the internet.

But the management of this site supposedly wants to be above reproach in terms of what it makes available to minors.

This is the front page no less.

They're tacky, but they make me giggle every time I look at them.

If a child were to 'stumble' across this site, I don't think a set of crudely designed penii are going to make the site any more enticing.
With a name like Large Penis Support Group, a child knows exactly what they're 'stumbling' across.

My two cents. They are a whimsy. They look like the green things I give my dog to chew on. These icons are nothing compared to what children see looking at television or mainstream media and magazines. If you disagree that's fine, but this is an adult site and the owner, moderators and administration and members work diligently so that minors have no participation here.

Well if y'all hadn't pointed them out I never would have noticed them... but since you have... they're tacky and cheap looking.

I think it is relevant to distinguish between 'minors' and 'children' because the latter implies innocence. As such 'children' should be highly unlikely to just stumble across the site and should be monitored on the net anyway by parents. The minors however are a different story seeking out intentionally to view whatever is behind the door.

Accountability is firmly in the hands (excuse the pun) of the parents and guardians of children who should be monitoring their children's time on the net.

Would you also recommend that IMDB remove 'tags' from their film descriptions because a child could learn rude words?

You don't have to be logged in to see the icons. Log out yourselves and have a look.

I agree that parents should take more care with their kids surfing habits but they don't and the icons are visible. Though I'm not too bothered about it being as they're only cartoonish silhouettes.

One could argue that they might catch unwanted attention if you were reading the site in a less than private setting but then the icons are only visible on the main page and the forum titles are much more visible and titillating enough on their own. Besides which plenty of guys want people to know about their endowment anyway. Ta-daa!

I just think they're juvenile.

why not nip this argument in the bud and put up a disclaimer page to be viewed by non-members upon 'stumbling' upon this site? That way, no one can 'discover' this site and be so horribly offended by some phallic shaped icon beside every topic.

I don't like them, but not for any moralistic "child safety" bullshit reason. Do you have any idea how many porn sites don't require age verification of any sort? A goofy penis silhouette is hardly going to scar anyone.

I think they simply look tacky, stupid, and (a tad ironically) juvenile.

Where are these icons? I assumed that the OP was referring to default avatars. When I log out, I can't see any avatars (except in the blogs).

Are these icons somewhere else?
You can't see them if you are using the Chrome browser. In IE you can see them without logging in.

I think they're lame.
I agree.

They'd be better if they pointed up if the thread had new posts and down (limp) if it didn't.
