Hey guys,

Does anyone know much about health risks of using poppers? Both short-term and long-term? I haven't used them much until recently. It's been a lot of fun (and helpful) with the big-dicked guy I'm dating now... but I don't feel like it's something we should be doing very often. Can't be good for the brain right?

What experiences have you guys had with poppers? How often do you use them? What do you know about health risks?

Cheers,
Brad

I've never done poppers but I Know that they are extremely dangerous to your health. The last time I was doing my routine std check up the male nurse gave me a full presentation.

First of all they are extremely addictive . You might not realise it but they are some kind of legal high.

Second: the chemical in them are extremely corrosive. When you inhale them you are actually burning your nose receptors. A long use of them could damage your sense of smell

Third: They also damage your eye sight, The nurse told me that the first time is actually the worst time for your eyes because it burns the majority of synapses really badly

Fourth: They also have an effect on your brain and organs as the chemicals go through your bloodstream.

I don't know if the nurse was trying to scare me away ( he was a cute gay 70 old nurse lol) by making them looks so dangerous but since that day I have not even tried once poppers.

If you want a more healthy alternative get some weed lube ;)

Thanks Beast. Those are pretty alarming concerns. I'm surprised by how hard it is to find info about this on the web. Does anyone else have info to contribute? I have to admit I'm a bit surprised to hear so many severe warnings given that there is so little information out there. Does anyone have corroborating or conflicting information?

Also, what is weed lube??

It's lube made out of weed oil. Don't know where you live but it's pretty easy to find in sex shop or weed shop. ex BF used it all the time and it works quite well

From the Merck Manual, a common handbook reference for physicians:
"Nitrites (poppers, as amyl, butyl, or isobutyl nitrite, sold with street names such as Locker Room and Rush) may be inhaled to enhance sexual pleasure. There is little evidence of significant risk, although nitrites and nitrates cause vasodilation, with brief hypotension, dizziness, and flushing, followed by reflex tachycardia. Nitrites may cause methemoglobinemia. However, they are dangerous when combined with drugs used for erectile enhancement; the combination can lead to severe hypotension (low blood pressure) and death."
Source: Volatile Nitrites: Drug Use and Dependence: Merck Manual Professional=
In 2010, The New England Journal of Medicine received a letter from French opthamologists in which they shared four cases where poppers impacted vision (via affecting the photoreceptors in the retina, a possible negative side effect for Viagra-class ED drugs). Even though it is anectdotal, if you do see flashes of light you should stop using them (again, as suggested in Viagra-class drugs).

When I asked the Dr he said the same thing pwrdick did, well not exactly but similar to what he said. I also researched a lot and didn't find anything alarming unless you are on Viagra or some type of similar drug. *shrugs*

Men have been using poppers for sex since at least the 1950s. Very few deaths have been reported.

However, my past experience with users has lead me to the conclusion that there's a danger the guy will be more into the stimulation of the drug than he is into his partner and the stimulation they could offer.

But yeah, never combine poppers with any ED drug.

They're fantastic - they greatly multiply the pleasurable sensation when you cum. Just limit yourself to 2-3 hits per session, once or twice a month. They're so much fun that it's easy to become psychologically dependent on the damned things. So just exercise discipline and observe the limits.

Being 5'4" tall, I have done them for years, just to make it happen as it were. Some kinds can give you a headache, but generally they give me an incredible orgasm that seems to go on and on.

In terms of long-term effect... well, the mechanism of addiction is similarly to sedatives and alcohol. It increases risk of depression and memory loss. Peripheral neurophaty. Tremor. Haematological disorders.
The accute effects from use are atrioventricular block... Convulsion. Asphyxiation is possible.

Thankfully, sex alone is enough of a high for me. The feel of his dick buried in my ass is AMAZING as is the feel of his body against mine, kissing, touching, sucking and so on. There really shouldn't be a need to "Enhance" an already WONDERFUL thing

Personally I used poppers heavily for a long time. It was quite easy to stop using them, so there addictive properties didn't amount to much, for me at least. I did suffer severe headaches at times however. Nitrites cause vascular dilation, so I'm told. Notably, I suffered a hemorrhagic stroke about a decade ago. I concluded, if the poppers didn't cause my stroke, they certainly contributed to it. I stopped using them cold turkey easily. After all, sex by itself come to find, is a high all its own. No real need to augment it.

Reading all this sure don't make a poppers user feel good.. When I first started using poppers the euphoria made me utterly rabid to suck cock and do it furiously. It was nothing short of amazing. That effect has diminished greatly now though. The best effect is I can easily take my buddy's 6.5" of GIRTH as long as he wants my hole. I don't use poppers often because the BF and I live apart from each other and I don't play much outside of him. I guess I'm wanting to feel if not overdone its not harmful, but of course I don't know.

I've been on Cialis for about four years though, the 2.5 mg. daily dose. I've had no negative effect combining poppers with Cialis, but what I've read about mixing the two is scary. Maybe the reason I've not had a negative effect is because I'm on the lowest dosage..?
