"Good night! Don't let the bed-bugs bite!"

ughh, excuse me, i don't have bed-bugs. what are you implying, exactly

Yeah, when I found out bedbugs existed, I stopped using that phrase. That's like saying, "Hey, don't you go getting hoof and mouth disease!" Mothafuckah I own shoes! Do you understand? I know three people who have ever had bed bugs, and they werespending too much time with dirty people.

:soapbox:

I hate it when people pause mid-babble to ask either "yes?" or "no?" like they're just checking to see if I was listening. Hell no I wasn't listening. If you don't think I'm listening, don't call me on it - just realize I'm not interested and talk about something else.

Sorry for the rant.

Some expressions I detest or find often misused:

1) "Life is too short" Oh, is it?

2) "I could care less" when it properly should be "I couldn't care less" since saying "I could care less" implies you care somewhat.

3) People who write "That being said," when the "being" is superfluous. It's properly said: "That said,"

4) "my bad"

5) "long time no see"

6) "ya know what I'm sayin'?"

7) "multi-tasking"

8) "prioritizing" (prioritising?)

I love the hatemail that guy gets, but wasn't he supposed to kill toby in 2005?? wtf

Yes he was. But he just moves the date everytime he gets to it. I think he is doing it as a kind of performance art, or something. He moves the deadline everytime he passes it. Then he watches all the idiots who have no life, scream at each other in the review section of his booklet on Amazon. It's pure genius.

Don't forget:

"Be that as it may..."
"Lets open a dialog with Joe about it", (when you mean, "lets talk to joe about it.")
or worse, "Let's interface with Joe about it."
"Value added"

Mostly I hate all forms of "corporate mellow-speak".

A common term: Gay & Lesbian.

Ummm...aren't lesbians gay and therefore included under the term 'gay'? So isn't it a redundant concept like...."Coins & nickels" or "farm animals & cows"? Think about it.

Another one: "giving 110%" or any percentage over what one could give since 100% IS ALL YOU CAN GIVE. If you can give more, it wasn't 100%.

I think that removing 'lesbian' from that phrase risks reproduding patriarchal notions of subsuming female distinctness and female experience within a male-centred term, since 'gay' is commonly taken to mean 'gay men' by many people.

Ahh, shuddup ... you remind me of an embarassing occasion when I was playing 'Guess the Celebrity' with friends (yeah, those long winter evenings just fly past here), and was greeted with general derision for giving the clue "she's a female lesbian" when trying to describe Martina Navratilova.
