I always wonder, and think would be an interesting thread, if people who are addicted to porn have the addiction for the same reasons people have addictions to drugs or alcohol: to fill-in some hole in their heart (self-esteem issues, child-hood issues)

    interesting question.
i dunno about that one. i guess it could be, though, since if you are lonely and you aren't having any sort of romantic or sexual interaction in your life, you look to porn to satisfy that need. i'm sure we've all done that at some point or another.

Cool. But I'm talking about the type of addiction where people spend hours on the computer or behind videos every day and even if they are in a committed relationship or not.

Some guys here talk about masturbating to porn for hours and hours! Just makes me wonder if there are emotional ills that may not even be understood.

I read about a guy that lost his job because the company he worked for had no firewall inplace and he surfed for porn a few hours a day and he got fired over it. He turned around and sued his old employer for giving him the addiction to porn :) Not sure if he won or not.... but you never no with political correctness nowadays he probably did.

i am addicted to porn(in case anybody that's read my posts doesn't know by now)i have to see it,not just a whole movie, but at least a scene.
i think it dates back to when i was a 13 year-old and i would rip the house up looking for my dad's latest porno he had rented/borrowed.
i was hooked the first time i watched it.it was a gangbang scene with damn near every porn actor from the 80's going to town on vanessa del rio.it just blew my mind.but the wired thing about my thing with porn is that i don't get excited(no bullshit)i masturbate to regular tv all the time(girlfriends, charmed reruns)but porn i'm into it just like i'm into the nfl, nba, mlb,or pro boxing..

    My 2 cents...

I've often wondered the same thing (about myself cos 'My name is Oral Fixation and I'm addicted to porn' :), and others) and came up these rationalisations:

    1. Maybe some people just have a high sex drive and just get off on (lots of) porn - I sometimes think this of myself. And if we explore this further, I need quite a variety, therefore much time spent online.

    2. Some psychological or social reason (not necessarily bad or perverse). In my case, when I'm not thinking I have a high sex drive, I think its more a social thing. I love spending time on my computer, I spend all day at work on it and can get home and spend all night on it (yet another addiction!), and I really enjoy spending time on my own (all the more time with that computer and porn :))) I can be quite a hermit at times but I find I often need to just spend time on my own, away from everyone and everything (this of course could have a whole other psychological reason behind it) which necessarily means that I spent all that time on porn.

    3. On the other hand, I also do just LOVE porn, just for the sake of it - I mean one can get almost anything to fulfill your fantasies on the net (I have quite an active imagination and, I won't lie, a considerable part is spent on sex or something sex-related).

What I haven't heard much about though is the gender aspect. Is is just a male thing cos I don't know too many women who spend much (or, as much) time online (or othewise) watching much porn, while I know a lot of guys who do. I have heard some arguments about the whole men being more visual creatures while women are more ermm, cerebral/mentally stimulated thing, but I just think, how could anyone not want to watch porn and spend hours doing so, especially with the varied range online.

Actually I think this has been documented by scientists & psychologists. It's Satan.

Ok, seriously..... Well, we're all big chemical factories, right? So, when we do something pleasurable (be it eating, drinking, drugs, porn &/or sex) well then these chemicals are released in our brains. This is especially intense at climax, so it stands to reason that it would reinforce the behavior that's going on at the TIME of climax. Over time, some of us might need more & more of this stimulation to be satisfied (feel pleasure) and some of us might not have this problem. I think porn addiction is very real and is no laughing matter....but I would imagine (just guessing here) that the vast majority of porn enjoyment is purely recreational and occasional. In other words, the porn's not a requirement for getting off.

You know... this is interesting because my twin bro and I are the HORNIEST person I've met. Both of us are gay and are in love with chubby guys. We jerk of ALL THE TIME, at work, at home, during movie.. etc. We browse porn all the time (that's actually how I found this website).

It's to the point where we think we have a "problem". It is not normal when we can't concentrate at all if we are in front of the computer. We could be doing homework and all of the sudden, we start browsing porn sites for pics or videos and can jerk off like 3-4 times a time.

I think it is a severe "addiction" because it sort of affects our daily life.

I also have video game addiction.

Now, I don't think we have low self-esteen. It's just that sex feels soooooooooooooooooo good. :( Our dicks can get hard so easily and we are 27. I think my dick gets hard more often now than when I was 18. Just today, I got awaken by my dog and my dick was hard. I knew I was darn tired but I just had to jerk it. I have to come up with my "jerk off fantasy" and then I blew my load and then fell asleep but woke up sleepy AGAIN 'cause the jerking affected my sleep routine.

Is anyone out there who are similar to us? The funny thing is our boyfriends are nowhere nearly as horny. We have to BEG for sex all the time. Is it too much to ask to get fucked at least once per day?

You know I still think there is more involved than just sexual desire. You know as soon as I identified certain self-esteem issues and childhood issues the need for porn just evaporated. Even when looking at pics here it is more for the comparison purposes; I don't get aroused! I can look at a porn video and look at it like: Okay, how big is this penis, how does mine compare? But no desire to masturbate, no horniness - nothing! So, in my case I think my porn addiction was related to other issues. I think in other (of course not all) cases this would be true also.

the idea of porn addiction is interesting...

for eg. a guy that is in a long term serious live-with relationship that is able to do anything and everything to his girlfriend..... why would he look at porn on the sly... when he gets action whenever he wants?

is he addicted? does it reflect on the way he feels about his GF?

    men are strange creatures
