I never cease to be amazed at people. There are those who have given good adivice and those who have basically told a 19-year-old, one year over legal majority and in fact encouraged this individual to make decisions that could have a horrific negative impact on his future.

I am myself a gay man. I grew up less than 20 miles from the porn capitol of the world which is or was Hollywood California. Through a number of odd coincidences I had the pleasure of meeting many from this industry and knowing a few of them well.

I want to point out that most of those people are dead now. They died of complications from HIV.

On a porn set there is no way to 100% know that those with whom you are engaged in sex are clean of any illness. Infected with and dead of complications from HIV are Thom Katt (again not the bodybuilder), Scott Taylor, Scott O'Hara, Melchor Diaz, Lance, Lee Ryder, Rick Donovan, and more others than I would care to count.

When I was in College I worked for a transit bus company servicing buses as they returned to the yard, I worked writing medical papers, I worked as an intern at a radio station, I pumped gas, and I survived to get an education.

Many years ago there was a gay porn studio called Colt. I must not have been too bad because I dated several fellows that were models for Colt. My main exposure to this life was in the 1980's which was nearly 7 years after College for me.

What is your education worth if you were to on a whim take chances that jeopardized your health. What is everything you've done to this point worth if you confine your future to an industry which gives you a very short life in front of a camera. At the same time that short life of only a few years has the potential to label you and stigmatize you in such a negative manner as to literally stop about 60% of your future. Depending on the school appearing in porn can even have the potential to end your education. Some private colleges are not keen on porn stars because of contributions and influences from conservative alumnus.

If you feel you want to act in front of a camera change schools and get to Lee Strasbergs or one of the schools teaching acting that can get you somewhere. The problem is that you're looking for an "easy way out" and it can cost you more dearly than you could begin to imagine.

The worst part of it is that if things do blow up in your face, many avenues and people to whom you could have turned would not help or consider your choice favorably. You are way too young to go there yet. Get your education behind you and if you still feel this way, at least get the education first. Unlike you I came from a wealthy family, but my young friend in order to appreciate the education I received I still had to work for it. My Stepfather was a Beverly Hills/Los Angeles Surgeon. He was one of 11 children raised on a farm in rural North Dakota. You are complaining about work to gain the most valuable asset of your life. You already have one of the most valuable gifts imaginable. You were one of the lucky ones accepted to attend a University and have survived this far. There are many your age who would kill to be in your position just to get the education. The money definitely is not worth it. I can guarantee that. I can also tell you that the highest paying studios are those doing gay bareback sex. Do some very heavy investigation BEFORE you say yes in any manner. Find out everythinig before you go not after you get there.

None of us can really tell you if you should or should not do it. If I was in a situation and I was unsure about anything, I most likely wouldn't do it. Getting a "career" in porn is next to impossible, there are those few people who make it big and can survive on that alone to provide cash. The likelihood is that you will do a few scenes, they work will dry up and you'll go back into obscurity. Don't think of this also as a long term career, even the biggest porn stars in the world only have a shelf life of 10 years (approx) as a maximum.

Think carefully about it, once it is done you will have the money, but that will go quickly - the clips / scenes however will remain on the website indefinitely. I would warn against doing it, but that's just my opinion!

Best of luck!

i had a buddy that got flown out to somewhere in florida for porn. he didn't say what city, i'm sure there is more than 1 studio in florida. anyway, he said it was $21,000 for a year contract and that's at like 3 or 4 scenes a week. dunno if its the same place, dunno if he was even at a gay place. either way, he ended up not being able to get it up when the cameras turned on. they said that happens to about 1/2 the guys that audition. i thought 1/2 was a pretty shocking statistic. stage fright. i think the moral, though, is that if you are even questioning it a little bit, you probably shouldn't be doing it.

plus i was watching an episode of the tyra show where she had the gay for pay guys on it and one of them works at subway so im not sure even if the money thing works out like how i plan it would... thanks by the way for everyone being supportive and not mean!lol
To be fair, the guy was fired from Subway precisely because he did gay porn. Naturally that means the guy who complained about him also watched gay porn, thus making him a massive hypocrite, and it makes Subway self-righteous assholes who get involved in stuff that's none of their damn business. Was he filming a porn scene in the damn kitchen? No he was not. But it happened nevertheless.

I want to point out that most of those people are dead now. They died of complications from HIV.

I notice how you neglect to point out that all of these people made porn in the era before condoms became the standard in gay porn. If you're using all the usual sensible precautions, you're no more likely to catch HIV on a porn set than you are by having sex in real life.

Thankfully, for the most part, any reputable company nowadays will always use condoms on their sets. If they don't, then idoevrything should not work with them.

either way, he ended up not being able to get it up when the cameras turned on. they said that happens to about 1/2 the guys that audition. i thought 1/2 was a pretty shocking statistic. stage fright. i think the moral, though, is that if you are even questioning it a little bit, you probably shouldn't be doing it.
A valid point. If you're not able to get it up, that pretty much proves you shouldn't be doing it.

Exactly my point. Is is worth jeopardizing an annual salary where you could be earning 6 figures (or close to 6 figures) after graduating from university for a one time measly $21,000? It may seem like a lot of money now, but it's peanuts compared to what you'll make after graduation. Trust me on this one. If I had done porn - especially gay porn, there is no way that I would have the great paying job that I have today. Best of all, I can hold my head high, and I have nothing to be ashamed of. Put up with the bullshit jobs that pay lousy money now. At least you know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and it won't be for the rest of your life (that's what got me through). Doing the crap work does build character and will make you appreciate your education and your eventual success even more.

It's really your choice, at the end of the day.

People here have given you advice of all sorts, but it's up to you to decide which one(s) you will follow.

If you think that you can live with your decision and its consequences in the long term... Your call, buddy

PS - Note that I didn't say 'possible consequences'. ALL choices have consequences, if you ask me. So think it over seriously, dude.

Absolutely it's his choice at the end of the day. He was asking for different opinions about this and he has received them. I use the term "possible consequences" because there is the chance that he may never be found out by people that are in his life. In that case, there is no consequence other than being able to live with the choice that he made. Maybe he won't feel remorseful about it later on and chalk it up to a life experience, so again the consequence is not certain. There is so much porn on the Internet now, that he may get lost in the crowd. If a guy looks familiar to me (I never forget faces), it could be from anywhere - maybe porn, maybe I've seen him around, maybe he was introduced to me a long time ago by a friend, etc. I have people who I know that I've never met before tell me that I look familiar. Maybe I just have that kind of face.

This topic reminds me of an episode of Despoerate Housewives where Bree's son (Andrew) has a gay lover and partner who did some gay porn to get through medical school. He was outed by Bree's gay neighbours who recognized him from the porno. I can't imagine too many supposedly straight men going up to someone who has done gay porn and outing them because they are then basically admiting that they enjoy looking at gay porn. It's like a guy never commenting on another guy's dick in the locker room and shower. What supposedly straight guy wants to admit that he was checking out another guy's dick? We all do it, but no one wants to admit it. If they comment on it, they must be looking at it, so what does that make them? Aside from a hypocrite, it would also mean that the person has been outed. Too many supposedly straight guys have too much to lose to do something so foolish. I'll admit that I look at porn - straight and gay, but there is no way that I'm going to go around admitting it to people that I know such as family, friends, and people that I work with.

so ive been interested in doing porn for a while now and ive been offered by a gay porn studio in florida to fly me out in july. i really want to do this but however as with any big desicion a person has to make im just trying to make sure this is the right thing for me to do... what could the downfalls be? i am in college and it might be embarrasing if the whole school found out but the money woulod def be nice...im just trying to make sure what im doing is right...any advice would be nice,,like what would ur reaction be if u found out ur friend was in porn or something??
thanks and be nice!!

If you do it, wear a Darth Vader helmet at all times. And a condom. And gloves. And put a bandaid over that tattoo, fer chrissake-- or better yet, a cast. And have a digital creature superimposed on your likeness in every frame by the guys at Pixar.

Basically, you should accept that it will be just about impossible to make yourself unrecognizeable, and this will get out. Personally I would be a little jealous :) but not everyone would be so laid back about it.

You can make money doing whatever you want on-camera. Some actions will earn more than others; some avenues will pay more than others.

You can easily make money just by recording yourself masturbating, face or pussy fucking your girlfriend on camera, then putting it on sites like Xtube at affordable prices.

If you focus on your cock, the gays will buy it. If your gf is hot and you focus on her, straight guys will buy it.

That's the way most amateurs are going about it nowadays.

If you want to work for a porn company, keep in mind:

Pro companies are not just looking for big dicks — they want hot, fit bodies and handsome faces as well.

In fact, if you don't have at least 2 out of 3 of those things, the top companies won't hire you.

There are plenty of sites with lower standards, but they pay less and you'll be teamed up with less hot people, as well.

Also, the recession has caused an excess of people willing to do porn. Everyone is suddenly competing to be a porn star now in the face of unemployment. Couple that with piracy and oversaturation —*the availability of free porn — and it's easy to see why PORN COMPANIES ARE PAYING MODELS LESS THAN EVER BEFORE.

Now Xtube and other freetube sites for amateurs are places where pro companies scout for talent. So if you have some nicely shot, well-lit videos that show off a good body, face AND dick, you're going to get offers.

If I were you, I'd start recording your own amateur stuff, posting free trailers and affordable pay scenes by yourself and then see where that leads.

You can use Xtube clips as a calling card —*e-mail links to porn companies that you want to work for.

if you like guys and you have no problems with performance in front of a crowd then go for it. You shouldn't pass up an opportunity like that because 30 years from now (if) you are fat and poor you will regret it. I doubt anyone at your school would notice because gay porn isn't very popular, plus it would most likely be amateur.

I was offered an opportunity to do porn (straight) but seemed sort of sketchy considering the filmmakers were Dominicans based in Boston. If I was in better shape I would take some viagra and definitely do it!

I have appeared in Gay Adult Films(GAF). I use the name CatMan94 on this site as sort of a remembrance to that fact( Catalina Man - Catalina Video Production Company [You may have seen the 1998 film "Cat Men Do"]). That life can be great, and it can be disastrous.

I will tell you of an incident that happened to me at a McDonalds in West Hollywood, CA where I use to live:
I was having lunch with my mother, MY MOTHER!!! I was 22 at the time, and an old man of about 70, without any hesitation came up to our table, and right in front of my mother, said "I can't believe it, it is you, I knew it, I have your video, I've watched it several times, I love it. You are so sexy, you have such a hot body! Can I have your autograph."

The 'cat' was out of the bag so to speak!! I was devastated! I had to explain why this happened, and what this strange older gentleman meant. She cried, and I felt about 1/2 inch tall. Luckily, though, in the end it turned out that I had a mother that was very open minded, but I did not want her to find out like that, if at all!! If you can't explain something like that to your parents, or loved ones - DON'T DO IT!! Because regular people ARE the ones who watch those videos. They just don't want you to know it.

I know, and have worked with many, many GAF actors. Many are dead, most burned out. I will only refer to one, Mr. Nicholas Iacona, a friend of mine who died in November 1994. He was a Gay Porn legend who worked under the name Joey Stefano. He was probably the most prolific bottom in gay porn(the quintessential "hungry bottom") in his day. He died from a massive overdose in his motel room in Hollywood. Reports said he had Cocaine, morphine, Heroin, and Ketamine in his system. I do not doubt it, he was unhappy. Even with all of the money he made he was not happy. Many Gay porn actors, successful STARS, were still prostitutes off camera, and Nick was no exception. Strange for a guy who they say dated David Geffen(I don't know about that). Pay checks can come far apart from each other, they do not come on a regular basis, and even stars must pay their bills. The sad fact is the more famous you become, the more money you spend. I mention Nick because he was a true star, Madonna even used him as a model in her book "Sex", yet he was still a disaster. Read the book,Amazon.com: Wonder Bread & Ecstasy: The Life and Death of Joey Stefano (9781555833831): Charles Isherwood: Books, and you will get an idea.

Not all actors end that badly, but a lot do. Burn outs are more than common, they are the norm. I would be remiss if I were to leave out the people who do make it, but it is a very very difficult business, and it takes a STRONG personality to survive it. It will chew you up, and spit you out if you let it.

I was lucky, I never became a star! Just a meat and potatoes actor. Well maybe not potatoes, but I did eat a lot of meat!

I have been retired from that business since 1998, and I never even consider doing it again. It's in the past where it will stay. My new friends in the midwest know about that part of my life, and luckily they are okay with it, and we have an understanding that it's not a subject for general conversation.

The business was different back then. With internet porn you have to be REALLY careful. Anyone with a garage, digital video camera, and some editing software can make a ton of money, and call themselves a production company. They may not have lawyers to cover your ass like we had, they may not have proper insurance, they may not even be legit. There are true horror stories out there, so do your homework, and do what you think is best for you.

I am not ashamed of being a former adult film actor, but would I do it again? No, I most certainly would not!

PS: I know I have pics on this site, I can't explain why thats different, but it is, to me anyway. Besides my face is not shown in any picture, nor is my name. I'm very careful, besides I do still like to have fun - obviously!
This is fun..... Sorry this was so long.

Yeah but that was in West Hollywood. If it were in Minneapolis I might find that story more compelling. Especially in what seems to be the mid-90s...

You could try something more discrete than straight up porn.

Think about being on webcam over the net. There are ton's of chicks that make around $1000+ a week, i'm not sure if the pay is as good for guys but i'm sure there is a big calling for gay webcam boys too. You can do solo stuff and get into group or couple stuff on cam if you want.

Gay porn, I would think, is also more discrete that Straight porn. If you do gay porn and a straight guy thinks he sees you in one he watched....do you really think he's gonna come up to you and say:

"Hey man, I was watching this gay porn the other day and I think I saw you in it. Was that you?"
