I have been a member here for a while, and while I know how to work the site to search for forums, I couldn't find anything about what I am posting about... so if I had just overlooked it, just redirect me.

I have been on a kick to getting healthy. I hurt my back a couple weeks back while I was getting really into my routine. I slipped a disc and couldn't walk for days, and then was on steroids and muscle relaxers... still feeling pain occasionally, but I am not pushing myself for fear of hurting myself more.

My question is for those who work out... any personal trainers or trainers of any kind.

I want to get healthy. I want to get physically and mentally fit.
I know it's unrealistic to 'get' the porn star body, but is it unrealistic to strive to have one similar?

I know a lot of guys out there want 'the body'... but I want to know 'how' to get it. What exercises, what routines... anything.

I am a teacher, so I work daily from 8-3. Any simple things I could do there on a prep?

The porn star body I want is: Bill Bailey.... and I'm not even afraid to admit it... I love watching his videos. He fucks like a champ. I want that.

So, trainers out there... what do I need to do.

Check out youtube, tons of workout videos on there. My favorite online "trainer" is Lee Hayward. He has tons of videos and are more geared towards the body building crowd, but they can get you the same results you seem to be looking for.

Hey, Roy, I think you already know that you overdid it on your routine---the lesson we relearn each time we do a move incorrectly or try to move more weight than we should. Some of us don't have the ability or determination to get those great bodies but we should all do weight bearing exercises for the health benefits. Personally, I try to be very careful to avoid back injury, having done that already and knowing the consequences, but end up occasionally with a tendon injury which takes forever to heal.

Maybe you should consider hiring a personal trainer to help you figure out a safe routine. Not to burst your bubble but you need to start back slow, steady, and easy. You don't want to suffer a permanent injury. I messed up with my shoulder routine over a year ago and still am not back to where I was before it happened, only able to move about half as much weight. I opted for therapy instead of surgery and continue at-home therapy. My physical therapist chastised me for using shoulder exercises which ultimately led to my shoulder impingement. Yes, I admire the hard bodies we see everywhere but I know I will never be one of them.

Good luck with your recovery.

In the first pic, he looks photoshopped. :22:

As for getting in shape, I highly recommend a high intensity interval routine. Whether it's CrossFit, or any of the others out there. They work.

And you have to be very careful about what you eat.

As for your back: I have two herniated discs that I got from....high intensity interval training. Get thee to a physical therapist. The best thing you can do is stretch it. I do pressups. Lots and lots of pressups. I hurt my back about a year ago and I need to do about 150 pressups per day to keep the pain away.

Diet is going to be 80% of whatever you do. If you don't eat well/correctly, you're wasting your time. Fixing your diet is a lot harder than fixing a workout routine, and it's the reason most people fail. Whether putting on weight, or taking it off, your diet ALWAYS maters more.

Diet @ CONSISTENCY !! .....
Also, there are a lot of so-called " experts" around... be cautious... even a bit sceptical.
Look at the person's physique & see what they've done to their own bodies. Do you want to look like that? If not, move on to the next one.

I would like to become more
muscular, more defined and all around more healthy. I know the guy probably has been training for years, and may have been on the roids, but
a personal transformation is what I'm
looking for. mind body and soul. in 26.. I think it's
time to focus on the long run rather than the now.

so what does diet mean? its such a general statement

Well the distinction that comes to mind is that you need diets for bulking up as well as shrinking down if your trying to develop a larger body.

High carbs (for energy) and high protein (meat/meat-substitute shakes) are usually mentioned for peeps who want to grow muscle. Main point, you need calories. Staples include potatoes (white), pastas, white rice, brown rice, beans. Eat a lot of that, way more than you ever have before provided your doing some intense work daily. Some body builders have an alternative/bad way of bulking as they lift, endless fast food.

Then when you've reached a point where you're satisfied with yourself, time to shrink down and ditch the body fat. That's when you hit the usual idea of what it means to "diet".
