Porn is, in a sense, much more acceptable than it was in its salad days, and 'stardoms' are always much shorter. The 70s Golden Age had porno stars to last 10 years or more, which is not that great for lifetime financial security, but now 3 or 4 years is the absolute maximum for most, and rarely lasts even that long. That straight swarthy type Ron Jeremy is still around (for some unknown reason) and Jeff Stryker made his career last until he became wealthy. this was written up in the New Yorker Magazine in the mid 90s and was interesting--he'd managed a Mulholland Drive mansion as well as a big piece of land in Missouri. Sounds as if he was imitating Marlon Brando somewhat. Appeared in 'Naked Boys Singing' as guest star some years ago, which I wasn't interested to see. But, although John Holmes was hugely successful, cocaine addiction and underworld figures put an end to any kind of a decent life for him. A few of the Golden Age of Porn ladies have done well, like Carol Connors.
I don't know whatever happened to Georgina Spelvin, but anyway, it's also true the today's porn stars cultivate it as something they really aspire to, rather than doing it out of desperation for some quick money like it used to be. As such, it's a lot more competitive and also has a lot less personality than it used to. Mostly mechanical sex by now.
