Is it possible to say something nice about a politician from an opposing political party? Let's see how long we can go before the fighting begins.

Ileana Ros-Lehtinen is a Republican Representative from Florida. She has been a consistent supporter of LGBT issues in Congress, many times going against her party. She is also the only Republican I have ever voted for.

John McCain showed courage during the 2008 campaign when he spoke out against the ignorance and bigotry directed toward Obama. That was the same courage he had in Vietnam and showed that some of the man he was in the 2000 campaign still remained. If the McCain that challenged Bush in 2000 was running in 2008 it would have been more of a challenge for me to see how to vote.

Would it be a compliment to the other parties if I said that I am a registered Republican, but will NOT be voting Republican? :smile:
It could be. Well at least it's not negative:smile:

My point in starting this thread is to show that although we may be political opposites neither side is evil as a whole. Sure some members may be just this side of evil(in our opinions) but to paint an entire group that way is wrong. My best friend is a Republican. We disagree on a lot of things but I would never call him a tool of the devil.

George Bush has a goofy, endearing sense of humour. It's a likeable quality.

I've read that GWB is a really down to earth guy. He allowed no press in when he visits family of fallen troops, or when he meets returning troops.

Can we surmise that since you said something nice about a Republican in this thread that you're actually supporting the Democrats now? ;-)

I would have voted for Dick Lugar had he survived the Tea Party challenge in the primary. He's intelligent and has done much good work on curbing WMDs - his unforgivable mistake was crossing party lines to support some of Obamas efforts.

Alan Simpson seems to have:

1) a reasonable attitude;
2) a willingness to work with Democrats to find solutions to problems;
3) the country's best interests at heart;
4) no fear about saying what he really means;
5) including calling out members of his own party;
6) and is a compelling and charismatic speaker.

Colin Powell was an honorable man, he did a fine job while in government and I like that he had the sense to resign as Secretary of State when he could no longer support the direction of that Administration.

He is too old to run for President now, but I would certainly vote Republican if it was Colin Powell.

With all the talk of the incivility within the forum I present this thread as an example of some attempts to corral negative behavior. You'll notice that while just about everyone behaved nicely only one person refused to do so. Was it a Democrat? No. So I think this weakens the conservative argument that Democrats are the ones promoting incivility.

Yeah this is inaccurate. You take not saying anything as refusing to play nice.

Oh and Al Franken got screwed. And Tulsi Gabbard was the best one on the stage in regards to not having insane political opinions

This thread lasted 14 posts...... 8 years ago.... im sorry.... but no... this shows NOTHING to further what you say it does...:confused:

Especially since you revived it yesterday.... after an 8 year death haha.

Non-participation =/= proof of civil behavior from any side let alone one side of a spectrum.

So was this your reason for starting the thread? So you could finger point? Your logic is such that one person has influenced your opinion to the point of making the above statement that supports your view, and weakens that of conservatives?
