1- Harry Truman gave aid to the French in 1950 fearing that if the North were not defeated that the world would fall to Communism (later termed the Domino Theory).

2- The Communist Vietnamese Nationalist army defeated the French in 1954 at Dienbienphu leading to the creation of the 17th parallel separating the south from the north.

3-The Eisenhower administration refused to honor the creation of a North Vietnam.

4- It was Eisenhower that first dispatched "military advisors" to train the South Vietnamese army and the CIA to conduct covert activities against the North.

5- Kennedy escalated the war but did not start it.

6- Johnson escalated it even more.

7- No US president ended the Vietnam war. It ended as a result of the North Vietnamese defeating the South by surrounding them at Saigon.

8- Nixon resigned his Presidency in shame due to Watergate.

9- The American people never remember their history and are therefore doomed to continually repeat it by following their stupid leaders into totally unnecessary wars.

10- The Domino Theory, the same as WMD in Iraq, was crap that was drilled into American minds through fear.

11- I suggest that before you start shouting at people that you first get your facts in order.

Nixon prolonged the Vietnam War by sabotaging the Paris Peace Talks in 1968 as part of his election campaign - Kissenger did the dirty work and then was rewarded with his position in the Nixon Administration. The capitulation that Nixon finally negotiated was no different materially to the one on the table in 1968 - by extending the war he was directly accountable for half of the casualties. But it made a lot of military industrialists very wealthy. A quarter of a million Americans sacrificed for political ambition - not to mention the civilians in Indo-China. Jolly useful being able to test all those weapons systems though including chemical weapons like agent orange.

Even if you believe that going into Iraq was justifiable, the Rumsfeld-Cheney strategy was inept. They worked how to get to Baghdad and seize control but had no plan to manage the aftermath.

Still the likes of Halliburton made a fortune so that's all right then. And AlQuaeda did very nicely out of it. Iraq is now a divided theocracy, the very thing that the US government sought to avoid when it backed saddam in the 1970s and 1980s.

It'll be interesting to see what the outcome is in a few years once the US troops pull out whether in "victory" or "defeat". Imagine how much good the money squandered on the war could have done - it could have transformed Afghanistan with the potential to turn that country into a stable nation that wouldn't be interested in hosting Bin Laden the murderer.

Bush is such an unattractive personality it's difficult to imagine anyone finding him physically attractive. All that blood on his hands and no remorse - what a star.
