No, we are not cheap and before I go any further this is not a "bash Obama" post he just happens to be the one occupying the White House at the time.

As it has already been said this has been going on for years by both sides of the fence so I don't think that either side has much room for complaining or finger pointing.

I think what is at the back of this is our country is in the worst shape it has ever been in since the 30's and we the tax payer are growing\grown tired of our elected officals on all levels wasting our tax dollars so they can live like kings and queens while the people that put them in office don't know one day from the next if they are going to have a job, a place to live or food to eat. People are hurting and scared yet our elected officals go on like nothing is wrong and to them I guess there isn't since they make sure they have theirs.

I think it is high time that they do what they are elected and overpaid to do and this want happen while hob-knobbing with the rich in some other country or knocking the ball around on the golf course.

This X10.

Reality check:
President Obama has spent all or part of 26 days "on vacation" during his first year as president.

President Reagan, in 1981, spent all or part of 42 days away from the White House "on vacation" at his home in Santa Barbara, Calif

President George W. Bush spent even more time away from the presidential mansion in the nation’s capital than Reagan. Of the 77 total "vacation" trips the former president made to his Texas ranch while in office, nine of them — all or part of 69 days — came during his first year as president in 2001, according to Knoller.

Bush’s father, President George H.W. Bush, spent less time "on vacation" during his first year than his son, but spent more days than President Obama. According to travel records provided to FactCheck.org by the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum, the former president took six trips — spanning all or part of 40 days — to the Bush family compound in Kennebunkport, Maine, in 1989

President Obama’s Vacation Days | FactCheck.org

So far, President Obama has taken 61 vacation days after 31 months in office. At this point in their presidencies, George W. Bush had spent 180 days at his ranch where his staff often joined him for meetings. And Ronald Reagan had taken 112 vacation days at his ranch.

I also thought it rather telling what was said on MSNBC on Friday night. Loosely quoted, "Nixon took time off at HIS vacation home in San Clemente. Reagan took time off at HIS vacation ranch. The Bushes took time off at THEIR vast estate at Kennebunkport ---- but since the Obama's don't OWN a vacation home -- they're renting!" Hmmmm!

It would be interesting to know what the wealthy Republican leaders of Congress are doing on vacation to remind THEM that other Americans are desperately hurting!! (and we can bet that with Mitt Romney now tripling the size of his mansion the spin on THIS will be how he's stimulating the economy!):biggrin1:

Of course he is. This is classic trickle down economics that the Republicans have been in love with since Reagan. And as George H.W. Bush called it voodoo economics. It didn't work then and it doesn't work now.

I don't begrudge the President and his family a vacation, I just want them to stop wasting taxpayer money.

I understand and fully support the need to leave Washington. What I don't understand is the need to double up on travel expenses. Can the family not travel to their vacation destination together?
