When I first read this news I was so happy and glad we have made a big step forward and looking forward in seeing us walking down the aisle.

Correct! However, I think they will appeal because they are blinded by thier ideology. Like Glenn Beck, they should pull their heads out of their asses and their vision would be 20/20.
Dave

I have GOT to use this as a signature line somewhere! :biggrin1:

I'm very happy with the decision today!

We had a wonderful champagne celebration at the Diversity center in Santa Cruz , CA , where we toasted Judge Walker , President Obama (on his 49th birthday) and all the people in Santa Cruz county and across the state who helped make this possible. Our two lawyers, truly the oddest couple of the 21st century, are truly heroes and are rewriting the legal history of this nation as I write this.
My partner and I are hoping to marry later this year or early next year.

As far as Kennedy on the Supreme Court...liberal law school proffesors and as well as conservative scholars have came out and said that Walker's written opinion was basically "talking" to Justice Kennedy. Judge Walker already thought ahead to address any points that would keep Supreme Court Judge Kennedy on the fence.

"Proposition 8 fails to advance any rational basis in singling out gay men and lesbians for denial of a marriage license. Because California has no interest in discriminating against gay men and lesbians, and because Proposition 8 prevents California from fulfilling its constitutional obligation to provide marriages on an equal basis, the court concludes that Proposition 8 is unconstitutional."

...Step one complete. Next stop 9th District court. And then FINALLY the Supreme Court where we will be heard once and for all.

Actually, yesterday's ruling came out of the district court. the next step, if there is one, is the Court of Appeals. If the appellate justices refuse to hear the case or if it fails again it never goes to the SCOTUS. (except in very rare cases of submission by petition, or some such language)

I was watching Rachel Maddo a couple of hours ago and she was still trying to figure out why the right wing groups had not used today to inflame their supporters.
When this happens I think it lulls us into a dangerous complacency. Still, I was very grateful when I learned of the judge's ruling.
I wonder how many more justices Obama will get to pick? I hope in his second term he will have additional opportunities
