Hey guys! I’m 61 and recently went to my physician for my yearly checkup and my PSA test had doubled. It was still in the normal range. The only change I noted was during last 6 months if I had to go to the bathroom I had to do it right then. If I waited, would leak urine. I have a steady stream and completely empty my bladder. I may get up one time during the night to go to the bathroom, but not every night. I went to highly recommended urologist and was diagnosed with BPH. I was prescribed Cialis 5 mg daily which has worked very well. About a week ago I noted an uncomfortable sensation at the tip of my penis with some mild burning. I do not have a STD…that was confirmed. I went to the Urologist and was diagnosed with prostatitis. I’m currently taking two weeks of doxycycline. Has this occurred to any of you guys? I do not have a urinary track infection. There is no blood in the urine. Occasionally, I bottom for my partner. I have not gotten sucked or penetrated anybody.

I’m just concerned.

I'm 66 and my prostate has begun to enlarge. 10 years ago my doctor said my prostate was "still nice and small" but not anymore. It's not really causing me any problems, although my stream has become slower part of the time. I was already taking 5mg of cialis daily for its other benefits, and now it's supposed to be helping with both issues.

For about 3 years now my PSA has been elevated and my urologist has been monitoring it. It's been outside the normal range, but so far no higher than 6.8, which is not too bad. Still no sign of any bumps or nodules in my prostate, and the doc says the fact that my PSA has been going both up and down strongly suggests I don't have cancer. Still, last fall he recommended I have a prostate biopsy, so I followed his advice and had one. Since that time I've had a sense of urinary urgency I never had before. Doc says that's not a usual consequence of the biopsy, but???

He also had me test for prostatitis, as that can raise psa. I've never had any symptoms, but twice in the past year or so ive tested positive for prostatitis. Both times a course of antibiotics cleared it up.

I have no idea how I got the infection either time. I would expect yours will clear up too
Hopefully this won't become a regular thing for either of us. When prostatitis becomes chronic I think they put you on a more intensive antibiotic treatment to take care of it. Best of luck to you.

As for PSA reading going up & down, don't ride a bicycle or do any sexual activities for three days before the PSA test, for an accurate result.
For the BPH, I had a TURP (trans urethral resection of the prostate) that worked well. it was done the old way, not with a laser.
An earlier procedure using a microwave probe to cook the prostate did not help at all, what a fraud.

Thanks! I've heard the biopsy was horrible!
