I think that the reason men like women to shave their pubic hair is to make them look younger. The mind sees a shaved pube and thinks that the pussy is that of a teenager. Actually, I go with the idea that hair above the clit should be trimmed, hair below should be removed. If the mound is completely bare, then you don't get to see anything naughty with skimpy or translucent panties.

Umm... I'm guessing the reason is to keep flies and gnats off.  Now that homo sapiens wear clothing I don't think that applies.  As for unhygenic, most women use TP, and feminine hygene products.  

I think the real reason people still have body hair is that it's not a selected-against trait (evolution, that is).  For instance, I'm guessing that those of African descent are larger in the penis department because the mode of dress in the tropics was the loincloth (or less), which makes penis size a selected-for trait. Women may have gone topless, but generally not bottomless.

As for the preteen look, I think you got it wrong. It is a generational thing, but not grown v. underage. I saw some porno in college, and in the 70s/80s vintage the women all had hairy vulvas. If you came of age in that era or earlier, wild bush is normal to you and your friends. You might not even have seen hairless ones except changing diapers. The later stuff showed the actors to be trimmed and shaven. If this was your peer group, shaving probably does not seem abnormal to you. I noticed the aesthetic difference in gyno-/our bodies ourselves books that showed hairy middle-aged vulvas and those in a men's magazine like Penthouse that showed of-age, shaven (and likely airbrushed) vulvas.
