I am doing 10 minute sessions on the cusp on “discomfort” and “pain”.

Definitely not painful enough stop, but uncomfortable. Nothing major though.

What are signs of poor pumping technique?

I do 3 10 minute sessions with 30 seconds rest in between.

Poor pumping technique would be pumping at too high of vacuum, too fast. Gradually increase the vacuum. If not, you’ll pop little blood vessels and your skin will be very sensitive. Handjobs will hurt and using the pump will hurt.

I guess "uncomfortable" is acceptable, but what's the point? If the whole process is not enjoyable in every way, your mindset is wrong or your technique is wrong. If you are worrying about how much time to spend in the tube, how much pressure you should be using, etc., you need to rethink the process. Put the fucking cylinder on your fucking cock, pump to a comfortable pressure, then read your emails for the morning. Drink some coffee. Check LPSG. (Remove tube from cock!) Shower and get on with your day.

Back off on the pressure and go longer in the cylinder. Rushing will accomplish nothing but damage to your cock.

Ends up being 40 minutes in tube at a moderate-high pressure. No blood, no pain afterwards.

You should be paying attention to time spent in the tube. If you wind up with injuries or red spots, you can look at what you did and compare it to previous times that did or did not produce the same results. Like, "Well, I did 40 minutes and got red spots, what happens when I try 30 minutes?" Start with lower pressure and as your session advances try to increase the pressure, but not by a lot, just little increments like 1hg at a time. If I am not paying attention to the time and I intended for a 10-minute set in the tube and accidentally I'm in for like 13 or 14 minutes I may have overdone it on that set and I wind up with either edema or red spots. Plus, if you are interested in getting a routine going, paying attention to time is a good thing.

Instead of such a small, less than 1 minute break between sets in the tube, try to do some jelqs or massages for an extra minute. I usually spend at least 3 minutes out of the tube to jelq and get the blood flowing really good again and bring the color of my cock back to normal and then get hard and get back in the tube. I find the extra oomph between tube sets makes for a much fatter penis and a much better pump!

Just be careful that the discomfort you feel is not going to lead to injuries. Check your cock all the time during a session and especially when you are out of the tube for any changes, swelling or bruising. Some of us might just be able to throw it in a pump and forget about it. Others might want to take a little more note and pay a tad more attention to the thing they are pumping!

In case you're referring to me and my routine, @techpump , I don't just throw my cock in the tube and forget it. I've been pumping for 25 years, so I know what I'm doing. I don't worry about ill-effects from pumping because I have none. No swelling, no red spots, no blisters. I also don't fret over how long I'm in, how long I'm out, and trying to get normal color back to my cock. I don't get "abnormal" color.

The best advice I can give is "low and slow". Any other is just plain foolish

Patience is a virtue and you start filling up a tube, you can really get into 7th heaven. I find that best results are achieved when you enter the cylinder as hard as possible, sometimes if you aren't particularly turned on, it's a good idea to remove your cock more often to get it hard again and stay as hard as possible thoughout your session.
Poor pumping is when you pump beyond the point where it is painful and for too long, you risk getting blisters, blood spotting from burst blood vessels and discoloration that can take over a year to disappear. Not only will your gains slow down due to injury but the inflammation caused by these minor injuries can hinder gains and reduce erection quality.

By "low pressure" I mean a HIGH difference between ambient air and pressure inside the tube. In other words, a LOT OF SUCK. "Low" here does not mean "low difference." - Just thought I'd clarify since low usually means low, as in threshold.

I've been pumping since around '97. I pump between 1-3 hours a day 4-5 days a week at 15-17 min sessions. I also do Kegel exercises while pumping which has been very helpful imo. I also enjoy the feeling as well as the long term effects in both girth and length. It's a very slow process in growth but an enjoyable one.

8 min pumping
5 min rest with jelqing and stretchting
8 min pumping
5 min rest with jelqing and stretchting
8 min pumping
5 min rest with jelqing and stretchting

I have a full erection, do it with full suction an do kegels while pumping.
I have a Bathmate X40 Hydromax Extreme.

Gained 4mm in girth past 9 months...

Same here I do pretty much a different routine every pump and I've been pumping quite religiously since May 2018 (I had pumped off and on in the past 10 years, but never really kept up with it like this past year). It's not that I don't want to follow a specific, same routine every time. It's that sometimes I let time pass and my number of minutes in the tube miss my mark. For instance:

I use a rice sock thing to warm up for 12-20 minutes, depends on how much heat the thing has stored in it.
then wet jelq for anywhere from 5-10 minutes, depends on how horny I am and how good my EQ is that day.
Then in the tube, usually always low pressure 3-4hg in my 2" cylinder for 4-6 minutes.
A few minutes of jelqing and massaging/jerking to maintain EQ
Then I have two "rice sock donuts" that I sewed to completely encircle my 1.75" cylinder, and I use them and the smaller cylinder for probably 10-12 minutes.
Then jelqs and jerking.
And then my imagination runs quite wild! Like the other day I did: 5min 2", 10min 1.75", 5min 2", 10min 1.75", 5min 2" to end. Pretty fun and varied 35 minute pump session.

Once I did minutes in increments of 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 to get to 40 minutes in the tube. Sometimes I don't throw the 2" tube on in the middle or even end of my routine. Sometimes I just use the 1.75" tube.
I keep a stopwatch going every session and note exact minutes and which tube used throughout. I've been logging all this information into a spreadsheet and actually need to turn it into data. I also write down what it's like at the end.

What am I looking for?? Why am I spending extra time and steps while pumping? Why not just throw the tube on and let it rip (which is something I would love to do!!)?
Because some pumps are wayyyyyyy better than others. Some I pack more, some less. Some I get red spots, some I get edema, some I get both, some I get neither. Within this year of information I've collected there is likely some "golden formula" for me that equals zero red spots and edema, the fullest pump I can achieve and within the optimum amount of time.
I deal with data for a living and making observations and experimentation. It's just all so interesting, the variety of pump quality and outcomes from day to day. I'm close to collating all this information and plan to run some analysis on it all. I will update here in the near future with my findings if anyone cares :)
