First, let me start I have a genuine fear that Trump will pardon the named Insurrectionists specifically and may even grant a blanket pardon for all of them. Although given the serious nature of these seditious crimes, the President's right to an absolute pardon might be challenged.
*Assuming the above does not happen, here is my view:
*The reason I think Trump will not pardon this rabble is that he fears being prosecuted for doing so and Trump never, ever cares about anyone but himself.
*Assuming the above does not happen, here is my view:
- All identified should be charged with the most serious crimes possible. Not just silly unlawful entry crimes.
- Co-conspirators should be charged, including family and friend who had reasonable indications that of someone's intent regarding these crimes, even if tens of thousands must be investigated and prosecuted.
- They should be forced to pay restitution for damages.
- After serving sentences, they should permanently be considered a terrorist threat, and treated as such, for example being placed on no-fly lists (I think this already may be happening), electronic monitoring, not being granted passports...
- Even those not convicted of a crime should be subject to #4.
- Where applicable, States should consider other charges.
*The reason I think Trump will not pardon this rabble is that he fears being prosecuted for doing so and Trump never, ever cares about anyone but himself.
