Do you already know that you're HIV+ and, thus, unconcerned about contracting it OR, do you just not care if you get infected?

I know my question sounds a little judgmental - sorry if it comes across that way. I just always wondered about guys who post on various sites looking for bareback sex . . .it's so obviously dangerous and unsafe, I wonder why anybody would do it. I guess if you're already infected you may figure that it doesn't matter whether you play safe or not. . .but what about those who don't know their HIV status? Seems reckless and irresponsible but what do I know? That's why I'm asking.

Whilst not exactly the same topic I agree it's certainly relevant to the subject. Many threads here seem to grow arms and legs and some great thought provoking stuff comes out of them.

Yes, I understand what your point is. The purpose of starting the thread, however, was to understand the mindset of someone who engages in bareback sex, regardless of whether they're aware of their own hiv status. In the scenario you described, the unwitting victim is still acting recklessly by having bareback sex, so I'm trying to understand what would prompt him to do so in the first place. Legality issues as to knowledge and intent are perfectly valid topics of discussion but, as I said, that was not the purpose of my starting this particular thread.

Though, I would really like to hear from guys who engage in such behavior to hear what they have to say about the reasons for their reckless behavior.

Some guys have bareback sex cuz they actively seek the virus, they want to get infected.

Others are just uninformed and think that they're safe as long as they're the top and/or they pull out before cumming.

Some are just wreckless and don't care.

Some are naive and believe that "He really loves me, he'd never cheat on me."

I don't know if that is in all cases but I have read cases where a charge of manslaughter was brought and succeeded.

I have ...bareback sex with women who tell me they've been tested. I say women...this doesn't happen often or with many women. Perhaps two or three at the most I have trusted on their word. With the rest I wore protection.

In retrospect, I shouldn't take women at their word.

Personally I would never have sex with someone I knew indulged in bareback sex. Eew. They tend to be quite sleazebag types, frankly. Dont care about themselves let alone anyone else. All for what, a 10 second cumshot? If they appreciated life they wouldnt be so quick to destroy it so easily.

It is a very good question. And should be asked of anyone that you know is having unsafe sex. One life saved is a blessing to the one who is saved. I have often wondered, when I hear of someone having bareback sex: If they are HIV + are they having sex with ones they know is also HIV + ? To knowingly infect another person is nothing less than murder. But what if both are infected ?

I get really scared when I hear about 'bug chasers' and how they deliberately go out and seek to get infected with HIV because they truly believe it is a 'gift' and that they are going to get it anyway because it is rampant still in the gay community and so why not take away the doubt and get it deliberately and early. Fucking scares me that guys and some women too think that way.

Couldn't agree with you more. I can't begin to imagine the psychology behind "bug chasing." Nobody could possibly want to commit themselves to a lifetime of anti-viral meds and, thus, the only logical conclusion to reach is that any such people who actively seek to get infected have a death wish. Personally, a gun to the head sounds more appealing if dying really is the ultimate goal.

Does nobody here wish to step up and defend barebacking? I know it's like walking into the lion's den, given the judgmental nature of the postings, but it's certainly no more daunting than the actions I'm asking you to explain. Seriously, I really do want to understand why guys do it. Just check out xtube or craigslist and you'll see how common it is - I know some of you must be on this site too!
