One of my best friends, for the last 34 years or so, is a straight woman. We are still very close. It isn't an exclusive thing, but she tends to prefer the company of gay men, over straights of either gender or lesbians. She told me it's just because she seems to have more in common. But she is the type to have LOTS of friends, anyway. We have lots of friends in common, of both genders and all orientations. When I go back to visit, she usually throws a party for me, and invites "about 40 of our closest friends."

Most fag hags are fun and cool to be with...but those fag hags whos constantly trying to rape you or convert you or those fugly ones who is always showing you off and pretend to their friends that you are their bf, etc, someone please drop a house on them! They annoy the hell out of me!

Fag stags on the other hand is soooo much fun, they are the coolest people ever, and deserves an award.

OK these are all generalisation and from my own experiences :p

I enjoy my women friends a great deal. They are fun, adventurous, like to dish about their boyfiends and dates, and we generally have a great time. They love to talk however so I have racked up some very expensive long distance bills in the past. I sometimes pitch hit for a real boyfriend sometimes when they need it for one reason or another.

They are different from most straight women I know in that they are not into the girly girl stuff and generally are more like tom boys. They complain to me that they hate the catty social dynamic of women and enjoy hanging around men because men are less complicated, less conniving and refreshingly frank. They would hang out with straight men if they could get around the sexual tension. They just don't care for the company of most women - most hate it infact. My best woman friend claims to be a gay man trapped in a woman's body.

hmmm...doesn't really answer the question though...

i'm not asking how they feel about the title, though it's very interesting to read people's thoughts on that.

i'm more interested in how people feel about the whole concept.
People are whoever they are and have their own interests. In general these women irritate the hell out of me. They get all touchy feely and want to hug and be great friends. If their only interest in me is my being a queer, I can do without them. Many of them seem to have trouble dealing with heterosexual men, and also with women and fortunately for them, there are lots of queers who like having these safe women around. Safe meaning that they aren't looking to convert them. I've met a few and some have turned out to be okay as acquaintances but I spend very little time with them.

The stereotype is a woman who is smart, accomplished and sophisticated but unattractive/fat/butt-ugly. I had a stereotype hag best friend through my late teen years. She was sweet most of the time, until I discovered that she really did have an impossible crush thing going on. It made me very uncomfortable to discover that such a good friend had ulterior motives.

One of my best buds down here in Florida has a similar relationship with a woman, but as they are older and (somewhat) wiser, it has developed into a much better arrangement. They are so close, I sometimes wonder why they don't just get married

Fag hags are great like Margaret Cho or Kathy Griffin!Hilarious!Granted I think they are way too vulgar and nasty at times but their support for the gay community is admirable.
