Also the rates may be lowering in some areas but in the area of the US I live in the rates are in the upper 90% range.

No they aren't.

There is definitely a regional difference (it's kind of interesting to see a trend that so significantly bucks the red state - blue state coloring), but no state in the US is above 90% (let alone upper 90% range).

Circumcision Statistics

The national average has fallen below 50%.

Hi there.
One of my friend is a urologist. He says it is healtier to be circumcised. even if you don't have any problems when you are young, it is possible that you could get infections and health problems after sixties. And lots of young uncircumcised young people having problems get circumcised.
I am not cut but my son.

Circumcision Policy Statement -- Task Force on Circumcision 103 (3): 686 -- AAP Policy

Existing scientific evidence demonstrates potential medical benefits of newborn male circumcision; however, these data are not sufficient to recommend routine neonatal circumcision. In circumstances in which there are potential benefits and risks, yet the procedure is not essential to the child's current well-being, parents should determine what is in the best interest of the child. To make an informed choice, parents of all male infants should be given accurate and unbiased information and be provided the opportunity to discuss this decision. If a decision for circumcision is made, procedural analgesia should be provided.

If your friend the urologist is specifically recommending circumcision he's kind of an asshole and he's out of step with AAP.

There are no appropriate times to retract his foreskin. If you do it prematurely, it will cause damage.
Since retraction on its own can come anytime from birth to puberty or later, it's best to let him do it himself.

I am cut myself, so I can;t speak on the retraction issue personally--I only know of issues of phimosis and adhesion later in life. This is why I reccomended talking to the doctor. I certainly accept your statement if you are uncut---you would know. I only know that the principle reasons for reccomendations of routine circumcision have to do primarily with hygene, and to allow for complete proper hygene in this area, the foreskin needs to be able to be fully retracted. There are also many treatments now available to treat phimosis and adhesion without circumcision, so it is just something to be aware of and discuss with the physician, including checks by the pediatrician a he grows.

It would be a miracle if a urologist said a baby shouldn't be circumcised. The medical community has made a ton of money from neonatal circumcisions over the decades. Quick surgery. Quick dollars. Am I cynical? No. Just observant.

it's a tribal thing. if you are circumsised and other members of your family are circumsised, then continue the tradition and let your son fit in. don't listen to the rest of these guys who think just because they have a foreskin its the only way to go. i love my big fat cut penis head and have yet to have a partner who did not agree!!:biggrin1::biggrin1:

boys do not need special cleaning under their foreskin when until the foreskin starts to retract naturally probably by the seven birthday or so. Do not try to retract his foreskin as is still attached to the glans. In other words leave it alone.

Never ever retract your baby's foreskin! In ways, I think that's almost as bad as circumcision itself. And certainly don't use soap around the glands, lukewarm water is all that is needed (and even that isn't really necessary).

I don't understand this point at all.

When I was growing up, I saw my dad's dick just a few times, and only for a few minutes or so when we took a shower or something. I was young, so I looked for curiosity, but I wasn't thinking "Oooh nice cock!" We certainly weren't comparing.

Also, when I was growing up, I saw my friends' dicks maybe once or twice, also when we were young, curious, and just wanted to compare a little bit. Looking back on it, I am almost POSITIVE that one of my friends was uncut. I never said "Man, what's wrong with your penis" and he never criticized mine. There was no embarrassment at all to be honest.

Cutting to "keep a tradition" solves nothing. There was no "tradition" of me being naked in front of other people all the time, so I feel no special bond with my dad or other friends because we're cut. This is stupid. Cutting to keep a tradition just keeps circumcision rates unnecessarily high.

I'm very young now so I'm not thinking about having kids, but when I do, you better believe I'm not going to make their first memory a painful one.

Also, when I was growing up, one day it occurred to be that I had a scar on my dick. I think I must have been like 6 or 7 years old or something.

It really puzzled the shit out of me. "Where did this scar come from!?" Was too embarrassed to ask about it at the time

Talking to the doctor in the US, is like one of those finger traps.
They recommend circumcision for an ingrown toenail.
Adhesions are most often caused by someone forcibly retracting a foreskin, while it is still connected to the head. Once it tears, the foreskin heals to the head. Doctors and nurses are famous for doing this.
For phimosis, there is curing the underlying yeast infection if there is one, then:
stretching with the fingers for 6-8 weeks
Going to the doctor to get betamethasone cream. Combined with stretching, it takes 6-8 weeks.

If only because of the issues with complications to sensitivity and perhaps a bitch in the procedure that can cause all manner of issues like painful erections to a cut off of blood flow to the glands. If you put the positives of a circumcision up to the negatives of a circumcision... there are way more negatives. I'm uncut and have never had any issues about anything what so ever, and my parents didnt have to worry about cleaning either, once I was old enough they told me the importance and I did it myself.

Very young, perhaps, but very smart on this issue!

The bottom line is, if you believe in science and evolution, then foreskin is meant to be natural. If it wasnt then natural selection would have kicked in 5000 years ago when humans started circumcising and we would have evolved to be born without foreskins if they were unnessessary or caused problems. That being said, i am in favour of men who are of age and who understand the implications of circumcision getting it done, but its not right to remove an erotic part of a child which in this age is only for social reasons. If a foreskin is to be removed, it is to be because of its owners choice and on one others.

This isn't a post about all circ-jobs, just one I've seen in particular.

My friend showed me his cock once as a prank, and it looked like it was circumcised with a meat cleaver. Skin bridges, really uneven scar, just totally unsightly.

Not saying that this is an issue with every circumcision, but you never know if the doctor is going to fuck something up. Why risk it?

If I ever have children (adopt or something) there is no question that I'd have them circumcised. I watched all 3 of my brothers go through their early adolescence and had painful night time erections and eventually tearing of their foreskin due to the fact that it wouldn't retract. All three had to be circumcised at around 13, and all 3 now harbor resentment against our Mom and their dad because of it. Thankfully the adoption agency had me cut before they gave me to my parents, so they didn't have a say. There's no way I'd put my son through the agony my brothers went through.
